Automatically create purchase order that's linked to an existing sales order

We’re currently entering sales orders then using capable to promise (in the actions menu) to create the purchase orders with our vendor and link all the line releases between the SO and PO.
I would like to know if there’s a way to automatically create a purchase order once the sales order has been entered, specifically with EDI imported sales orders.

It would be great if any EDI imported sales order for our ‘Direct’ plant automatically created a PO and linked the lines and releases without a user having to do it for each sales order.

Were you ever able to figure out how to auto generate purchase orders? We’re in a similar situation, we’d like to have purchase orders automatically generate from our PO suggestion list based on buyer. Any suggestions?
