Yeah, I like that enhancement in SOE, so users now can check/view the exemption certificate(s), and it certainly seems logical to have the same option in Customer Maintenance. 
I was thinking that it would be nice to have the customer records updated in Kinetic so that it would not even be necessary to have the option in Customer Maintenance. That would mean not needing to create additional users in AvaTax, and the status would still be visible even if the connection to Avalara is down. Perhaps that idea is a good candidate for Kevin Barrow’s Fin-Efficacy Quest Board?
