Backflushing on Assembly Lines

I’m working with a company that has multiple assembly lines and they can make the same finished goods on all of the lines. Each of the lines has multiple resource groups and several bins within that work center. They insist on having the parts backflushed.

The problem is, parts may be in multiple places on each line, and on multiple lines. The backflush logic isn’t precise enough to “know” that when I’m working at LINE 1 STATION 1 and use Part A, it should be backflushed from Bin A.

Any thoughts on how to do this best out of the box or with customizations?

Also open to process changes that keep bins from being driven negative.

My resource group:

Part A is only in Bin A (S1BA), Part B is only in Bin B (S1BB), etc.

This is how the materials backflushed after quantity was reported on op 10.

I’m pretty sure the backflush bin is set at the Resource & Resource Group level so assuming jobs are setup correctly and assigned to the proper line/resource, they should backflush properly.

Yes, the backflush bin hierarchy does specify those bins first, however my problem is that I need several different parts when I complete the operation at that RG and there are several bins to pull from. The hierarchy is not specific enough to say that when I’m performing operation 10 at RG - Line 1 Station 1 and using Part A pull from Bin A and then when I’m using Part B pull from Bin B. It will try and pull both parts from the bin specified on the resource/RG.

Ok, I read that as each area had its own Resource/Group. I’m not sure how it would impact your scheduling but could you have 1 RG per Line and a Resource per station, then define the Bins that are in each Resource directly at that level?

I don’t think predictably backflushing inventory from multiple BINs from one labor activity is possible out of the box.

If I have 0 OHQ in any of the bins identified on the RG/Resource, the part should then be pulled from the primary bin on the warehouse, right? I’m not seeing that. I’m seeing the system stop looking at the RG BF bin, even though it has 0 on hand, and I do have parts in the part primary bin.
