BAQ Calculated field referencing another calculated field

Chris,

For some reason my post hasn't come through so I will try again...
------------
If the calculated field is not a summarized field and is named 'MyCalcField' try this:

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - MyCalcField

Don't worry about the parenthesis around the calculated field or about the 'table.name' syntax.

The Vantage online help section on BAQ calculated fields clearly states that "An expression can also reference another calculated field." Exactly how this is done is not mentioned. Has anyone been able to create a calculated column in a BAQ which refers to another calculated column?
The last time I tried that as of 405 it did not work, not sure if
they've fixed it since then...don't hold your breath..

I've gotten this to work in 405, but only when the referenced calculated fields were simple arithmetic operations. When I tried to reference more complex calculations (like a total function on a summarized table, for example), I receive an error.

Please can anyone send an example of your calculated field where you are referencing another calculated field?

Has anyone managed to reference a calculated 'total(xyz)' field within another calculated field?

Im trying to

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - Calculated.Field1

Another option would be ...

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - Total(Table.Field3)

Any help would be appreciated.

In addition, if a field is null, how do I create a calculated field to check if the field is null?

If it is null I want it to display 0.00 but if it has something in it I want it to display the actual figure.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CHRIS THOMPSON

If your formula for Calculated.Field1 is field1+ field2…

Your next calculated field formula should be

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - (field1 + field2)

Highlighted part is just copied from the original formula and put within parenthesis for a new calculated field…

We are on 8.03.407 and I was able to reference one calculated field, but
if I tried to reference more than one in a calculation it failed.

The Vantage online help section on BAQ calculated fields clearly states
that "An expression can also reference another calculated field."
Exactly how this is done is not mentioned. Has anyone been able to
create a calculated column in a BAQ which refers to another calculated
column?

My First calculated field is Total(Table.Field1)

I want my second one to be Table.Field3 - Table.Field2 - Calculated.Above

Thanks.

Â
If your formula for Calculated.Field1 is field1+ field2…

Your next calculated field formula should be

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - (field1 + field2)

Highlighted part is just copied from the original formula and put within parenthesis for a new calculated field…

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - (formula for Calculated.Field1 in
parenthesis) ?

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - (formula for Total(Table. Field3) in
parenthesis) ?

For this - If it is null I want it to display 0.00 but if it has
something in it I want it to display the actual figure. - I have seen a
previous thread suggest compare your field with a known empty field...

If your field = known empty field then 0.00

Else actual.figure

Please can anyone send an example of your calculated field where you are
referencing another calculated field?

Has anyone managed to reference a calculated 'total(xyz)' field within
another calculated field?

Im trying to

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - Calculated.Field1

Another option would be ...

Table.Field1 - Table.Field2 - Total(Table. Field3)

Any help would be appreciated.

In addition, if a field is null, how do I create a calculated field to
check if the field is null?

If it is null I want it to display 0.00 but if it has something in it I
want it to display the actual figure.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CHRIS THOMPSON

Thanks Steve. I'll give that a try next time I have to reference more
than one calculated field.

I am on version 408A and have referenced more that on calculation field.
I
have noticed that there may be a memory leek problem with the baq.
Sometimes when referencing more than one you have to exit out of the baq
editing screen re enter and re open the baq to get the calculation to
work.
