BAQ Reports in Multiple Companies

Yeah at least with dashboards I find you have to do this:

1. Get the dashboard working exactly as you want it in Company A.

2. Remember the exact name you gave it in Company A.

3. Export the Dashboard with BAQs.

4. Go to Company B. Import Dashboard and BAQs. If you have
system BAQs, skip them since you can't overwrite them. The dashboard in
Company B will have BAQs with the Company B prefix.

5. Make sure you give the Dashboard the *exact same* name as you
did in Company A. Also make sure the description matches so you're not
confused.

6. Go to menu maintenance and link the dashboard where you want
it.

7. Now refresh your session. The dashboard should run as expected
in both companies.

If you find yourself reimporting because something got screwed up, be
sure to delete your custom BAQs before reimporting, as at least in .405
it won't let you overwrite the BAQ on import.

Brian:

By the way, thanks for that extra information about the Dashboards.
I was wondering why a dashboard I created last week didn't show up
when I changed companies.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
We're on Vantage 8.03.405 SQL with MulitCompany.

I have a BAQ Report that I have published to the menu, and I want it
to be available in two companies. The report uses a BAQ that exists in
Company A, but doesn't exist in Company B. The report is visible, but
when I run it no output is produced and I get an error in the system
monitor saying the query doesn't exist. I look in the BAQ tool and
indeed the query isn't present.

I've always been a bit fuzzy on how various pieces of the system tools
interact across companies. I just spent an hour untangling a dashboard
issue, as dashboards and their queries seem to be completely partitioned
across companies, so a dashboard on the menu must have the same name in
every company, and when you import it, the BAQ gets its name changed to
be prefixed with the current company. So as long a you're careful with
naming things the same every time it doesn't hurt too bad to set this
up.

I have marked the BAQ as global in the source company, and I think
that's what I need to have working in order for this to work properly.
I do see this in MultiCompany.log immediately after I marked the BAQ as
global:

01/13/09 10:37:45 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - Processing

01/13/09 10:37:45 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - Starting Sonic
Session (TCP://localhost:2506)

01/13/09 10:37:46 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - 1 Outbound
Records Processed (PICO/CORP)

01/13/09 10:37:46 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - 1 Outbound
Records Processed (PICO/CONS)

01/13/09 10:38:07 (VULCAN:8301) Translation Error - Exports record is
not available.

01/13/09 10:38:07 (VULCAN:8301) Translation Error - Exports record is
not available.

01/13/09 10:38:07 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - 2 Inbound
Records Processed

01/13/09 10:38:07 (VULCAN:8301) Multi-Company Process - Completed

What I don't see is a indication of a record sent *to* the target
company I'm interested in, OPTO.

So I'm guessing that the problem is that I need to have MultiCompany
setup to send records from PICO to OPTO. However I don't want to send
Parts, Customers, Suppliers, or anything like that directly between the
two companies. Can I just setup the PICO-OPTO links in External Company
Maintenance, but not configure any of the detail and get what I want?
Does anyone know what the "exports record is not available" error means?

We have had the same exact problem a couple of times: Shared, global
BAQs were not being passed from one company to the others. Each time
our problem was a result of Sonic not working.

It took a couple of weeks to troubleshoot with the help of Epicor
Support and each time the problem was corrected by a change in
settings with the Sonic setup. (We have yet to identify why Sonic
quits working sometimes.)

I recommend you log a support call with Epicor. It may take a couple
of days just to get the call assigned to a person with actual working
knowledge of Sonic and Multi-company setup. I'm not sure that there
are many people at Epicor who understand how information is passed in
the Multi-Company features.

It's too bad they haven't yet published an AnswerBook with a Step-by-
step instructions for troubleshooting and diagnosing Multi-company
problems.

Anyway, after Sonic was working properly again, then I had to go and
touch each BAQ by making some minor change and re-saving each one in
order to force the system to pass the BAQs to the other companies.

We're on Vantage 8.03.404 Progress.

Lynn

By the way, thanks for that extra information about the Dashboards.
