I'm looking at barcode software and have read postings about Bartender. I
have found 2 companies that make a program called bartender. Seagull and
Hallogram. Is anyone using this program and by which manufacturer.

support that it required a specific font to interact with Vantage

We are using barcodes for a lot of things. I don't really have any
software to produce barcodes. Instead, I use a barcode font, and use a
calculation like "*" + JobHead.JobNum + "$B$I*" to generate a barcode,
that when read, sends a job number followed by a tab via the keyboard
port. (The barcode has to be in a barcode font, such as DataWorks Bar 39
or another similar font. The barcode readers that I use are WelchAllyn
ValueTeam scanners, at about $170/each, including a keyboard wedge.
(Purchased from mika@...).

Two issues: The data being barcoded should be limited to 0-9, A-Z and
"-", but other characters can be output using special control codes. The
DPI of the printer and the density of codes does matter. Barcodes that
are perfectly readable on a HP LJ 4 (600 DPI) just don't work on a label
printer (200 DPI) unless enlarged.

Good Luck!

We've been using Bartender thru the ODBC interface to
produce custom packing slip labels for different
customers. It's simple to install and use and fairly
inexpensive.
