One of the ongoing bug bears that some of our staff have is with the format of the standard bom reports, and the limited or convoluted export processes.

Recently we've begun using "View Costs" to extract boms. (This is accessible from either Method Tracker or Engineering Workbench, by right clicking on the Parent part in the Tree.)

This does produce a half-decent indented UltraGrid bom, with full description (not truncated), though is missing some details we'd like, such as UOM, and bin locations etc. (To be honest, it never occurred to me to use this bom until a colleague pointed it out!) It's very easy to copy this to Excel.

It has been asked whether we can add fields to this view of the bom.

I don't know a lot about User Defined tables or Foreign Key Views, so this might be naïve: BUT would it be possible to populate a UD table with the content from the displayed bom, and via FKV or other means, populate the UD further with other fields, and then display that as an UltraGrid?

Regards
Kerry.
Yes, this is possible.

Do a trace when pulling up the view costs and you'll see exactly what methods to call during your customization.

Kerry -

I created a dashboard a while back that uses the same web service as "View Costs". It copies the BOM to UD20 and the related BAQ currently links to Part and PartWhse. I uploaded it to the Files Sections under Vantage 8.X Customizations if you're interested. (Indented BOM.zip) You fill in a quantity and part/rev on the first tab, then switch to the second tab and click Refresh All to see the grid and reports.

HTH, Kirstin

Hi Kirsten - yes very interested, but I don't think I have your 'first tab' when I install this. IE I can't select a bom/rev. I imagine this normally has a tracker view?

If I can figure out what's become broken, it'll be great I'm sure. Dashboard browse is also absent from my filtering options.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong Kirsten?
regards
Kerry.

After you add it to your menu you then need to import the customization for the UD20 form

And when you import the dashboard, it will rename it with your company identifier. I had to update all instances in the customization XML that called the dashboard to use our company and then it worked like a charm.

Thanks kindly to you all - I am most of the way there now. Awesome.

I've got the table part working fine - which I should be able to tweak to meet some internal requests later.

I haven't got the reports working yet, but working on it.

kind regards
Kerry
