One of the ongoing bug bears that some of our staff have is with the format of the standard bom reports, and the limited or convoluted export processes.

Recently we've begun using "View Costs" to extract boms. (This is accessible from either Method Tracker or Engineering Workbench, by right clicking on the Parent part in the Tree.)

This does produce a half-decent indented UltraGrid bom, with full description (not truncated), though is missing some details we'd like, such as UOM, and bin locations etc. (To be honest, it never occurred to me to use this bom until a colleague pointed it out!) It's very easy to copy this to Excel.

It has been asked whether we can add fields to this view of the bom.

I don't know a lot about User Defined tables or Foreign Key Views, so this might be naïve: BUT would it be possible to populate a UD table with the content from the displayed bom, and via FKV or other means, populate the UD further with other fields, and then display that as an UltraGrid?

Yes, this is possible.

Do a trace when pulling up the view costs and you'll see exactly what methods to call during your customization.

Thanks kindly to you all - I am most of the way there now. Awesome.

I've got the table part working fine - which I should be able to tweak to meet some internal requests later.

I haven't got the reports working yet, but working on it.
