Bills Of Material

Just a note of warning. We're on 6.1 and while converting data from our
old system, we brought over parts in BOMs that weren't in the part
master. When we ran MRP, it failed continuously until we removed the
parts that weren't in the part master from the BOMs. I don't know if
this is a problem in 8.0 or not, but it certainly screwed us up in 6.1

I am currently Prototyping Vantage 8.03. Does a Part have to be in
the Part Master to add it to a BOM?
According to the Vantage help files, a part does not have to be in the part
master for anything other than brining into Engineering Workbench.
Therefore, I believe the answer is yes.

Let me ask it a different way. Does the Part have to reside in the
Part Master for BOM's housed in a Quote or a Job?

Thanks - les

No it doesn't. You can use whatever you want in the part number fields in
quotes and jobs, but they have to be marked as make direct or purchase
direct on that material operation.

If you then pull the details from that quote or job into Engineering
Workbench, and you haven't added those part numbers to the part master,
Vantage will automatically create them in part master for you (whether you
want them to or not)

Les,
When you do a quote or job, are you running the GET DETAILS function to pull
over the details from the MOM?
If so, the answer is yes. However, once you do, or if you are just creating
the details within the quote or job, or pulling the details in from another
quote, the answer is no.

Hopefully that helps.
