hi all...
we are trying to enter a bill of material in part file maintenance in vantage 4.0 for a certain part but for some reason the BOM button is grayed out and will not allow you to click it. is there something i am missing? we haven't had any problems with any other parts entering the bill of material!! i'm sure it is simple and i am not doing something right but any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

Do you have a revision set up for the part?
Is the part type Manufactured as opposed to Purchased? Purchased seems to
be the default intitial setting for us (or everyone?) so new parts can get
created in the wrong mode and can't have a BOM. Quickest thing I could
think of.

Purchase parts can have a BOM. I'd make sure you have a revision.
Be warned that there is a bug if you switch from a mfg to purch
though. Once you've had a BOM you cannot get rid of the BOM
flag. This means you can't roll up the cost (since there is none).
This is "by design" of course. So if you want to change from mfg
to purch you need a new part number.
