BOM Migration from 5 to 8

If you have Service Connect, Epicor sells an Engineering Data Load tool that
allows you to load Parts, Revs, Bills of Material, and Bills of Operations
from four spreadsheet templates. You could extract the data from your old
system, populate the spreadsheets, and load the data with Service Connect.

This is not a painless process, and if you are only doing this one time,
having Epicor do it for you will be cheaper & easier. However, if you see
value in this for future adds and changes, this may be worth pursuing.

Subject: [Vantage] BOM Migration from 5 to 8

We currently have over 5000 mfg parts with BOM's. We do not stock all
of them but need to be able to mfg any of those parts on immediately.

What is the best and least complicated way to take all of out current
BOM's and get them into 8 so I do not have to rewrite all or check out
and change all of the workcenters.

Thank you for your help.

Pay Vantage to do it for you. There is no way to avoid reconstructing your (work center) capacity model as v8 uses any entirely different (and, in my opinion, uselessly complex) paradigm in comparison to any other product I've ever used or reviewed.

Paying them to do the data transforms will only leave you with the task of developing the new capacity model (likely with an onsite consultant's help) - and then communicating the 'mapping' of v5 to v8 entities to Epicor.

The only advantage to doing it yourself is you will gain a much greater understanding of the underlying data schema and paradigm change intent.
