BuildLookAhead

Does anyone know what drives the BuildLookAhead portion for MRP? I would like to stop the process.

TIA
Tricia

I don’t know if you can stop a particular portion of the process… just play with settings to impact them.

I’m no expert on MRP… but below is my understanding…

For example, the Cut Off Date (I think) is how far our MRP should be making sure the Supply (POs and Jobs) should cover the demand.

So, if leave that empty, it may run out to infinity and make sure everything is covered. If you wanted to limit your suggestions in the long term, for example… I’m not worried about anything beyond the next 6 months…

I would try putting a date in there (6 months out, 1 month out… whatever you require) and see if that makes a difference for you. Perhaps run MRP on one part and at least see if it changes/limits the BuildLookAhead dates in your MRP log?

You may still see the BuildLookAhead in the log, but it should stop after the Cut Off Date.

If you want to try to limit things on the short term, then you can try extend the Planning Time Fence on a given Part or Part Class. Then you shouldn’t get any suggestions for demand that are between the Scheduled Start Date and the respective Planning Time Fence.
