Happy Friday Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this off the top of their
heads. Can a URL be called from a VB Form from within Vantage?

For example, I have a Web location where documents related to a specific
part will be stored. I want to be able to save this link in a VB Form
field so that when a button is pushed in the VB Form in Part Tracker it
will call up the URL that contains this specific parts information. And
yes, what I'm trying to accomplish is similar to the Document Management
functionality but would be more encompassing.

This is how I handle this: In the VBForm I create a button to execute a .P progress procedure in the VBP folder:

{vbp/vb.i}
DEF VAR rpt AS CHARACTER INITIAL "".
FIND RMAHead WHERE ROWID(RMAHead) = GetCurrentRowID() no-lock.
{ud/RMA-HTML.i}
OUTPUT TO VALUE(SESSION:TEMP-DIRECTORY + "RMA.HTML").
PUT UNFORMATTED RMA-HTML.
OUTPUT CLOSE.
ASSIGN rpt = "V:\mfgsys61\PrintWebReport.exe \PrintPreview " + SESSION:TEMP-DIRECTORY + "RMA.HTML".
DOS SILENT VALUE(rpt).

What this does is create a HTML file in the users Vantage Temp folder and calls loads it up on the screen (\PrintPreview option). This has been my solution in planning for the loss of Report Builder when moving to Vantage 8.x. I create ....-HTML.i files which are HTML formatted report layouts of the information data I want to see. Then I can just include them where ever I need. Add them to BAM's to email or execute them from VBForms or Vantage menu items. It actually performs much faster then executing a Report Builder with the same report data (about 10 times faster).

PrintWebReport is a simple visual basic program written to automate the printing of a URL web page. (I wrote this originally to handle automatically printing out the mornings daily sudoku puzzle variation http://www.websudoku.com/variation/ at home and just improved it to be used for HTML formatted reports from Vantage.)
