Alright everyone, maybe you can tell me if I’m barking up the wrong tree
As it stands now, we set up our jobs “Make to Stock” and change on a monthly basis. Our operators only scan to the following: Job, Assembly and a general Operation (1.Raw goods, 2. Assembly, 3. final inspect). The only operators that scan in a quantity are the final inspectors with operation 3.
Our customers are more and more starting to want individualized serial numbers tied to specific parts of an assembly, The solution now is to have Serialized numbers are kept on a separate spread sheet and filled in by hand by the inspector.
This is really starting to frustrate our cell leaders as they are having to keep track of which serial numbers left their cell and we’re having to hunt down any ones that go missing as they sometimes come back for repair. The problem is that the cell has anywhere from 5-20 operators.
Cost accuracy is starting to notice issues as well because some serialized products are being started in Job 1 and not scanned till next month in Job 2. The bean counters now want a job with a fixed quantity assigned, for each each operation/cell and have each cell record when a job is done. This involves +15 cells split between 2 buildings and each cell finishing at a variable time including being aware of the quantity to finish.
My idea is to do operations setup properly, based on the product. Then have a job assigned to a contract and its Qty. We would attach physical travel tickets to each product, which would have the Job number and an individual serial number tied to specific product.
The issue I’m having is that I don’t see an option for a serialized range in the job creation menu or even a batch number style of tracking. Am i missing something hidden or does Epicor not have that ability?
All you should have to do is serial track one of the materials in stock, so when you issue it to the job, the SN is now on the job. Next, set EVERY operation as requiring a serial number and whenever someone reports a quantity, they need to enter the serial number that they just finished.
It would require a lot of process changes for you based on your explanation of the current one, but it is doable.
We’re changing the process anyway. I’d rather do it right the first time and tweak it than end up with another version of the same lousy system.
Than you should be good. You will have detailed information down to the day and time when an operation was performed on a serial number. Make sure to turn on Serial Numbers Required for this Operation on reworks/repairs too.
