This might be the only website left in the world that has not been completely overtaken by AI slop (yet) but its going in that direction.
Can we have an agreement to not post slop here, PLEASE? People can ask their own agent if they want slop. There is no reason for you, as a human being replying to another human being, to use slop instead of your own words to engage here. Please just stop.
NOW, if you are engaged in a thread and you say something like, well, [my agent] suggested xyz, or even paste what the agent wrote but clearly attribute that text to the agent, then I feel that is acceptable. Or if you are posting a question, and you have already been working with your agent on it but you are still stumped and you need help, and you say something like, here is a summary of the issue that my agent generated from our troubleshooting so far, that is also ok.
But when you are posting AI slop as if YOU WROTE IT that makes me really mad because that is not what this forum is for, in my opinion, and I am seeing it flooding in more and more and more. It doesn’t matter if you are just “using AI to improve what you wrote”. It still comes out slop and it is SO OBVIOUS that you have used an agent to write those words. You are not fooling anybody. So to conclude, PLEASE STOP THE SLOP.
P.S. No agents were used in the composition of this rant
P.S.2. All opinions expressed are solely my own and worth exactly how much you paid for them
P.S.3. This article really helped me understand the rage I experience when encountering slop in certain contexts. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.
I don’t mind when the poster uses translation to English from their native language but I like it more when they also add the question in their native language. That way I can also use translate to try to get a better understanding of the question.
Summary: Forum is experiencing elevated levels of synthetic prose. Symptoms include replies opening with “Great question!”, unsolicited use of the word “delve,” and a 900-word essay with five headers and a summary table in response to someone asking why their BAQ returns 4 million rows.
Root cause: Users piping perfectly good human thoughts through an LLM “just to clean it up,” producing posts that are 300% longer and 0% more useful.
Proposed fix: Pre-processing Data Directive on Forum.Post:
csharp
if (ttPost.Text.Contains("delve") || ttPost.Text.Contains("It's important to note"))
throw new BLException("Please use your own words. Typos are a feature here.");
Supported workaround: “My agent suggested X” is a supported configuration. Passing agent output off as your own is an unsupported customization and voids your warranty.
Resolution: Seconded. I’ll take “check your joins” from a tired human at 11pm over a beautifully formatted hallucination any day.
Disclosure: This reply was drafted by an AI and is being attributed per Section 2 of the OP’s policy. Irony has been noted, logged, and closed as Working as Designed.
P.S. No em-dashes were harmed in the making of this ticket.
We all have access to Ai agents… We can ask Ai our own questions, I agree with the sentiment and the rage . I really don’t want the forum to become a sesspool of Ai agents talking to each other via a Copy / Paste Secretary (AKA the Human)
In the defense of using AI to clearly articulate a question, “The thing goes with the thing and it does the thing and then the other thing turns green, but now it turns red.” doesn’t translate well when asking for help. So sometimes AI can put incomplete and jumbled nonsense thoughts in to industry standard terms that other people can understand.
There’s a fine line between using it as a tool, and using it as an end all be all.
Then there’s this..
This was an email I got from the head IT. When he asked if I read it I said no because I have a policy of not reading AI garbage.
He swears it wasn’t AI…
This is a very good point. I would not do well in a forum in another language. Heck, my English isn’t the goodest. Translation brings more people into the fold and I appreciate that.
