Can you tell how transactions are posted to the GL?🤞

Ok, I know it is a kind of out there request, but I will explain.

A while back I worked at a company that, at the time, I did not know was doing their accounting completely outside of Epicor. Seriously, they had a consultant build a report to export out data, then they did whatever they did in Excel, and then posted that to the GL. I did not find that out until shortly before I left. It only came up because they finally admitted they did not use the system.

Right now, I am beginning to get that feeling here. I would like to be able to figure out a way to see if the transactions done in the system are driving the GL or if they are doing a bunch of manual postings. I am sure there is a way, but I don’t know how to go about it.

Any accounting experts out there know of a way to do that? Or even give me some ideas that I can test out?

If you look at the chart tracker, the transactions by the system will be PJ (Purchasing Journal), IJ (Inventory Journal), SJ (Sales Journal), etc…

The TRANGLC table should allow you to link between the GL and the related table in the ERP.

Awesome, thanks for the quick answer.

Will manual postings not have a Journal called out or will they be GJ?

Yes they will be GJ. If you look at the Journal Code dropdown in the wip recon report all of the possible codes are in there.

And if you really want to see what the hell is going on then. Try out the PE log viewer, but use it sparingly and remember to turn it off. It’s really helpful to track through how postings are working.
