Cancel Works Job Sub Con operation

Hi,
We have a works job that has a sub con operation within, and a corresponding sub con purchase order. The issue is, we now no longer need the sub con operation, but cannot delete it because of the open purchase order. The purchase order cannot be deleted because of the link to the Works Job. Catch 22. We have tried deleting the PO release and other permutations to and fro, without success. Has anyone seen this before and got a solution for it, please?

Receive the PO to the job - zero cost…
would close the PO and the operation.
No impact on the job.
