Cannot delete Work Centers / Machines

One of the issues that no one seems t discuss when requesting to delete work
centers, accounts, operations, etc., is the issues of audit trails and
history. If you were allowed to delete items that have transactions
attached to them you would loose a valid audit trail and history of what
happened. No providing complete audit trails was one of the first hurtles
that automation had to overcome. If you can't tract transactions back to
their source the integrity of the entire system is in question. Just
something to think about.

One thing that we did was change the descriptions to start with ZZZ-Do Not
Use, then at least a) they fall to the bottom of the list and b) people
don't use them on new jobs and c)we have a record that we "inactivated"
them.

It is awkward that once a record is created somewhere you can't delete,
but
the alternative puts a lot of empty spaces (or has the potential to) in
your
database.

On a personal note: It is touching and heartening to see the world-wide
response on this list to our American tragedy.

Like everything else in Vantage, once the work center has been referenced
anywhere else, you can no longer delete it. Nor can you delete the closed
job, since it has all kinds of transactions associated with it.

The only work around require some custom programming. You could create a
new work center called "Obsolete - Purged" or whatever. Then
programmatically change every reference to the old work center to the
Obsolete code. After that, Vantage should let you delete the one you wish
to get rid of. Taking a quick skim through the dictionary, WcCode is
referenced in a dozen or more tables (JobOper, LaborDtl, PartOper, etc.)
so
it would take a good bit of updating.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
When I try to delete a Work Center I get the message "A job exists
with operations assigned to this center" and Vantage does not allow
me to delete the Work Center. I do in fact have CLOSED jobs which
reference the Work Center.

Does anyone know of work-arounds for this? Or do I need to delete the
closed jobs which refer to the Work Center?

Similary, when I try to remove a Machine from a Work Center or try to
delete a Machine altogether I get the message "Labor Statistics have
been posted to this machine" and cannot delete the Machine. Anyone
know of ways around this?

Thanks in advance,
