Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has ever had to change the IP address of their
vantage server and if so, any advice on the ramifications of doing so. We
recently built a new building behind our current building. The 2 buildings
are networked together and those of us in the new building are still
connecting to vantage located in the old building without a problem.
However, we now need to move our vantage server into the new building and we
will need to change the IP address in doing so. I am not very network savvy
so I was wondering if anyone know the issues we will run into in doing so.
I believe client installs point to server name which will not be changing so
I'm hoping this will be easy. But, I don't really know where IP address is
used in vantage, so I'm sure there will be issue I am not expecting. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sarah

Why do you need to change IP Address when you move to another building
If you have mapped drives all you will need to do is change your
service file possible

Services File is located in the WINNT\SYSTEm32\DRIVERS\ETC Folder
The HOSTS file on all the clients will have to be changed to reflect the new IP address for the server name. Depending on the client PC OS it can be in a number of places. Reinstalling the Vantage client (but not the Progress part) will update this but I found it faster to run a small .bat file that copied a revised HOSTS file to the client. I had to do it to about 50 PCs.

I would just make sure that the hosts file is updated with the new IP and
Hostname. It should then be able to "resolve" the new IP address.
