Change Supplier ID

Correct. You won't loose your relationships of previous transactions, but it
is confusing because there is no reference to the old number. If you print
out the invoice, only display the new information, even if it has been
posted.

Changing the supplier id will NOT cause you to lose the relationship
to previous transactions. Vantage has a vendornum field on the
vendor table that is system-generated and never changes. It uses
this field to relate the vendor record to related transactions.
Changing the supplier id changes the vendorid field, not the
vendornum field.

Changing the Supplier Id will still not allow you to merge two suppliers. There is an underlying supplier number tied to the Supplier ID that will not change just because the ID changes. That number is the key in all records linked to the supplier.

It won't let you merge two existing suppliers. You can only change the ID.
Also, it will affect all of your previous transactions. For instance, any
sales order, shipping pack, or invoice will now not have any reference to
the old number. So if you look back on an old invoice, it will look
different. This is kind of a pain. I wish the invoice captured the current
customer's information like name and address, because if that stuff ever
gets changed, you don't know what the original invoice looked like unless
you print out and file a hard copy at the time of invoice.
