Changed sales kits BOM, and existing orders

When a sales kit is entered on an order, hidden order lines are created for the components. So a change to the SK’s BOM doesn’t affect existing orders. How do you update an order to pull in the new definition of the sales kit?

Obviously we could delete the line and add the a new one to the end of the order. But the order of lines on our sales orders is important (some lines descriptions will reference other line numbers).

And if I change the partnum of the line for the SK part to something elses, and then back to the SK, and the new BOM of the SK has more components, will those components get tacked on to the end(after the last line on the order)?

Hi Calvin,
We have this problem too. The newly added components do indeed get sequentially added to the end, for line nos. We’ve wished many many a times for the ability to resequence sales order lines. I can understand some of the difficulties of this (e.g. already tied make direct jobs, btos, etc…) but one can dream

Here’s a real ugly one (section of SO acknowledgement) we had a few months ago where the kits were getting changed after initial order entry. The sales order pick list was real fun!

The column in your picture labeled “Kit Seq”, is that really OrderDtl.DisplaySeq?

Do you know if this can be altered without breaking anything? Like if I have an order with 100 lines, and line 50 references lines 51-55. And then someone says wee need to add a line but it needs to be inserted between 55 and 56 (with line 50 now referencing lines 51-56).

Original OrderDtl fields

OrderLine DisplaySeq
   1 1.00
   2 2.00
   3 3.00 (is a sales kit with 3 compnents)
   4 3.01 (sk compnent 1)
   5 3.02 (sk compnent 2)
   6 3.03 (sk compnent 3)
   7 7.00 (non SK part)

And you add a line that you want to insert between 2 and 3. But it adds it to the end as

   8 8.00

Can you manually change the DispSeq field so it is

   8 2.50

And then order the SO lines by DispSeq. With the expectation that line 8 prints between lines 2 and 3.

IDK if you will be able to manually change the DispSeq field. Maybe try an updateable query and see if it lets you? Looking at a query, we see the related data of order / line / kit parent line / display seq from order detail. Maybe as long as Kit parent line is in there, you can do what you want with display seq…
