Changing Costing Methods

Inquire about the Vantage Tool called Master File Import/Export/Copy Utility from Custom Programming. It will allow you to export the Part Master File and open it as an xls file, so that you can use the replace function to mass-change "A" with "S". You can then use the utility to import the modified file back.

Our consultant wrote us a lengthy email detailing this and other methods, and the pro's and con's of each method. (The above method does not leave an audit trail.) For more information, contact Ann Bollmeier at abollmeier@...

We're running Vantage 4.0, and currently have our purchased parts set
up using Average costing and everything else is set to Standard
costing. We want to change to using Standard for everything. I'm
told that to accomplish this, we'll need to go into each part
individually that we want to change, and zero out the quantities,
change the costing method, and then add the quantity back in. Does
anyone know of an easier way to do this?
Thanks!

Epicor told us there was a utility that could be run to solve this.
However due to its complexity they suggested booking a days consultancy,
So yes there is another method but what's most important to you time or
money!?

Do you know what utility it is? Is it something we already have or
can download? When I called, they told me my only solution was to
get a quote from custom programming. Wouldn't be the first time I
heard different answers from different techs though!

Go to the Advanced Bill of Materials- General Operations- Standard Cost
Replace. Be sure to have Standard Cost in Purchased Parts.
The Cost information is taken from the Bill of Materials and the
Router(Operations). This only for Manufactured Parts. You have the Chose
of a Mass Cost Replacement or a individual Part. This will allow you look
at the Cost Rolls before actual replacement.

I would not recommend a mass Cost Replacement- Unless you sure all Cost
information on Labor Routers and Bill of Materials is Correct.

I hope this helps

That's the way I was told we would have to do it also.

I'm only exporting a list of our purchased part numbers - the macro will
then read this list and type in the key-strokes to change the costing
method field in Vantage (part file maintenance) - there is no import
required. I'm just trying to automate the process of going through every
part one by one.

I used a similar process to change a bunch of parts that had (accidentally) multiple active Rev's. I did the export via a Crystal report so that I could filter out parts that didn't need to be changed. When I had an accurate list of part numbers (there were hundreds), I put these part numbers in a text file and used the macro that is on onelist right now to pick each part, and do the appropriate keyboard and/or mouse clicks to change the revs to the current rev.

I actually think changing from Standard to Average would be a bit simpler because of the screens to do so are a bit less complicated.

The above process, according to my calculations, took about 4 hours as compared to an estimated three days doing each one by hand.

P.S. Most of the 4 hours it took was just learning how to use the Macro program.
