Confused.... Customer Shipment Entry 8.03.xxx

Rob,

No, we do not have the pack out feature. No, it is not common for us to have multiple SO's on a shipment.

I'm confused... In Customer Shipment Entry, on the Summary Tab, there is
a field for Order Number. Why is this here?

You obviously need to select/re-select the Order/Line/Rel in the
Shipment Lines tab.

Is this just a legacy grandfathered in field? I know in 8.x you could
only ship one order per Packslip. 8.03.xxx introduced the ability to
ship multiple orders per pack.

Just confused as to why this field is on the Summary tab if you can have
multiple orders per Pack......

Thank you in advance.

Vic

Additionally, if you use the mass shipment feature, it will pull all open sales order lines.

Because you can ship against more than one sales order on one shipment, that is the reason why you have to select the sale order line release at the line level.

Ironically, this question was just thrown at me late last week. I would like to take this further in asking the question why...

When you enter the Sales Order Number on the Summary sheet it pulls in the "Ship Via", which, unless I have missed something, is the only place for it to be entered. We may have different Ship Via's on the Sales Order Releases. You do not designate the Line/Release until the next step. At that time, if the Sales Order Release Ship Via is different then what is currently listed on the Customer Shipment Summary sheet it does not update. Unless you have the Scheduled Shipments Report in front of you there is no way of knowing if this is correct or not. And then you can't gaurantee the person checked it. In addition, the other complaint is to enter the Sales Order Number on the Summary sheet and then enter it again on the Line sheet.

I guess I am looking to hear how others handle this process.

Jeff,

Do you have the pack out feature in customer shipment entry? This has
proved to be a fairly lean process for us, used in conjunction with a
bar coded pick list there isn't any redundant data entry, and..its
fast.. whether you ship multiple orders per shipment or not. Is it
common for you to have multiple sales orders on a shipment?
