We do have consignment inventory and we don't track it. In Vantage anyway.
Our steel products vendor stocks consignment items in our plant and we "buy
it" by opening the flatsheet bundle or a coil. The tags are sent in to the
vendor weekly and we "receive" it when we enter the invoice. Often a week
after we have actually used it. Not sure how this would actually look in an
inventory report in that time. The vendor tracks the inventory and restocks
some items on a regular basis sort of like a fuel oil "keep full" program
for home heating. Other items are ordered into consignment as needed and
then received when the job eventually needs them. From order to
availability in consignment is usually a day or less so again there is no
need to track in Vantage as we would for non-consignment materials. As far
as tracking the vendor (as opposed to the material) the Purchasing Manager
logs late receipts and gives them a regular performance report.
Not sure if any of this helps since it is so dependent on the relationship
with the vendor and your situation may be different.

Subject: [Vantage] Consigned inventory from vendor
Does anyone have inventory on consignment from a vendor? If so, how do
you track them?
