Consignment orders/shipments

We have a similar setup we are version 6.1. We do the transfers to the consignment warehouse, our problems are to maintain the order release closed. How do you manage to determine what releases are already shipped?
Or to plan production? We are currently closing the releases manually but sometimes some releases open creating nothing but confusion.

established a "warehouse" for each of our consignment customers. For

We use multi plant using the second plant as our consignment, each
consignment customer is its own warehouse. Nothing needs to be done
manually outside the system with this setup. We can place orders from
within the consignment plant, create transfer orders, and we can create
invoices from the main plant. We are running version 8.

I am inerested in some more detail. We really like having an order to build to, the problem comes when shipping. We do not want to use customer shipment for a consignment shipment because of the financial impact.

If you have the multi-site module, you create shipments via a "Transfer Order". This will generate a TO pick ticket for shipping to create a TO pack slip.

I had to customized the Transfer Order Entry form to display warehouses on the "To Plant" side but that was easy.

Transfer orders create a shipping transaction without touching the AR side of the system.

Also this setup allows us to configure a separate GL structure on the consignment plant to make those sales and inventory transactions easily distinguishable from anywhere in the system which makes our Accounting dept. happy.

Also this setup allows us to configure a separate GL structure on the consignment plant to make those sales and inventory transactions easily distinguishable from anywhere in the system which makes our Accounting dept. happy.
