I need to cost roll subassembly parts, I understand that there is no direct way to only do sub-assembly parts. Thus, I select those parts in the manufacturing tab filter and do the cost roll-up.
Perhaps I don’t need to do a cost roll on the sub assemblies after all…
Question: If I cost roll a part that has subassemblies is it only the part that cost rolls or do the subassemblies for the part also cost roll?
Let’s say I want to cost roll part 19236-29 which is composed of many parts and other subassemblies. If I cost roll 19236-29, will all the parts and subassemblies beneath it cost roll as well?
Like @Mark_Wonsil said, you can run through the cost rollup process and review the results without posting them to be sure how it will behave. This is usually my answer when our cost accountant asks how something will work in a roll-up.
That said, if the subassembly part numbers are set up as manufactured parts then Epicor should roll them up as well during the process. We have multi-layer BOMs (as much as 6 levels deep) and run everything in one cost roll-up group and it rolls every layer at once.
It’s kind of, by definition, supposed to blow through the entire method and roll up the costs from the bottom to the top.
Generally speaking, if you change the cost on the subassemblies would you not also want to change the cost on the parent and/or related subs? Do you have a business case that calls for this?
As others have stated, you can perform a cost roll and not post it and then cherry pick that data if you so choose. It would be a manual process at that point though if you want to pick and chose which levels get updated.
