We have it and plan to use it in our upgrade to 6.1 (from 5.2). It is
very low octane though. We will be sacrificing flexibility, features and
performance to move to it but we will gain integration. We currently use
a home grown CRM app built on top of Sharepoint Services on our
Intranet.

It was worthless for us and we have since switched to another CRM
package, SalesLogix. We lost integration with Vantage but that loss was
immensely outweighed by everything we gained.

Vantage CRM really wasn't designed to be a marketing or sales tool in
our opinion. For instance, there is not a good way to track some
standard marketing data such as: Lead Source, Industry, Lead Date, SIC
Code and Marketing Campaigns. We ended up using the VB Form to create
these fields and we then created a crystal report to track incoming
leads. But because the lead source, industry, and campaign were in the
VB Form we couldn't Query or subtotal on those fields because they are
character fields. This meant that we had to run the report for all
leads, export it to excel then manipulate the excel spread sheet to meet
our needs, every time we wanted an update on our incoming leads.

Also, there isn't a good way to track Marketing Campaigns...the only way
to do it now is by creating an opportunity, however, not all leads will
become an opportunity right away so that data is lost. In addition, the
marketing campaigns has the ability to track revenue by campaign, but
that is not an auto populating field...you actually have to routinely
calculate how much revenue you made from those campaigns and update the
campaign table.

Lastly, there is not an easy way for sales to search for all customers
in a specific state with more than one criteria; for instance, "I want
all customers in the state of AL who are in the food industry". I can't
even teach them how to use BAQ because, again, all the industry
information was in a VB Form.

We use CRM because without it we can't run the customer connect product.
In my opinion ACT is better and we've actually gone back to using it
(ACT).

Despite all of the bad press Vantage CRM has received, our company uses the product daily and is happy with it. Could it offer more? Of course it could, what program couldn't? If you are looking for basic CRM functionality this module will do just fine. Someone mentioned integration which I believe is a huge benefit of the program. We had previously used ACT for our CRM package and although it had many more bells and whistles the reduction of input into two systems is huge in my opinion. The CRM package is no different than the accounting module. I am certain that you can choose Great Plaines, Peach Tree, QuickBooks, etc... and you will have a much more robust software than the vanatge accounting module however you will once again loose the integration. One of the primary reasons we chose Vantage was to reduce the number of disconnected software packages we were using.

Michelle,

This probably won't be of great significance to you with regard to
CRM because you've already switched to another software, but I
thought I'd pass this on as an FYI that may help you in other areas.

When using Character fields from a VB form, you can change the field
size in the database schema so that they are usable in formulas in
either Crystal or Access. It is not that hard to do, I received
instructions from support and have successfully done it several times
here. If you have the need to do this, give Tech Support a call and
get the instructions. If they are unable to help you, let me know
and I'll try to get more details for you.

Also, I couldn't tell from what you wrote if you were using all the
fields you mentioned as character fields, but you listed a Lead Date
field and wished you could subtotal something, so I'm wondering if
you know that you can use date and number type fields on the VB form
as well.

Can we get a poll re:

Likes/Opinions on Changes from 6 to 8 going at Yahoo Groups -
Moderators? Also, on the new modules? And, Linux or Windows for
servers?

Possibly even an open ended poll of other softwares companies are
being forced to look at due to 8's Slowness of Release , Release
issues, product performance, modules not compatible with Linux? Are
there others out there that would not require the extensive
customization, especially, due to time that individuals projected a
conversion to 8 would take, maybe other software should be looked at
besides Vista/Vantage?
