Crystal Report PROBLEMS when trying to modify forms

Sue
I'm hearing 2 issues here.
1) Modifing standard forms like Job Travelers, PO and Invoices. You
don't need ODBC and Merant drivers to do that. You just point Report
Style Maintenance at a modified report and you're done. The data for
the reports is generated at print or print preveiw time in
C:\vntgwork as DBase2 dbf files. A Crystal Reports Print Engine
(CRPE) is called by Vantage with parameters pointing at the rpt and
dbf files.

2) Using Crystal reports as the reporting tool attached to the
Vantage database. The Merant drivers have been included with the
vantage installation since 5.0 or 5.1. Search the epicor site for
setup instuctions. When it is setup Crystal connects through ODBC.

Here I was so excited to be able to modify forms using Crystal and I get
met with problem after problem after I try to do it for the first time.

On one workstation, after I've opened the form, go to set location and
then find database, after I select it we get a MS ACCESS PASSWORD popup
that doesn't accept any password whatsoever.

On another workstation, I can't even open the form - I get a FAILED TO
OPEN DOCUMENT/INVALID REPORT VERSION.

On yet another workstation, again I can't even open the form - I get a
"TLV" error.

We are on Vantage 6.1.5 using the latest update of Crystal 8.5 (I know 9
and 10 are out there) but 8.5 is supposed to work. Has anyone else
experienced this problem? If so, were you able to fix it?

If anyone out there is using the same version of Vantage as I am and you
are able to modify Vantage Forms using Crystal, what version of Crystal
are you using?

I called Epicor tech support and the guy said that I'm the second one
this week to call with this problem. He's researching it.

Using Crystal, modify the form and save it with a different file
name.
Using Vantage/System Mamagement/Cofig Maint/Report Style set the new
file to be default. Then any Vantage user simply prints or previews
the form and it is in it's new version.

it smells like a odbc issue.
One thing to note is you have to check your vtg file. It should like
something like below, silly epicor when you install 6.x or one of them it
changes your vtg file and adds a : I think or some character to the bottom
where odbc is listed. I think it treats it as a remark. WE have had very
good luck with changing forms. Some important steps.

1. create a separate folder for modified forms
2. save this wip process form to this location, you will work from this
modified form so you always have the original
3. go to vantage and print preview whatever form you want, this will create
the dbf file
4. make sure your set the database location. c:\[depends on version of
vantage]
5. hit f5 to refresh form to use data from #4, now you should see what was
on the print preview
6. have fun.

Thanks to those who have responded so fast. I'll work on this today
using the info you've given me. One more question: How do I get hold of
the MERANT 3.60 32-BIT PROGRESS SQL92 V9.1D driver? I take it this is a
necessity to have in the System DSN on the workstation that will be
doing any Crystal Reporting in Vantage.

Thank you,

Sue

Epicor responded and the problem was resolved. How? By copying the
crystal .dll files from WINNT\Crystal to WINNT\System32. But I still
need to know where I can find the MERANT driver (see below):

Thank you,

Thanks to those who have responded so fast. I'll work on this today
using the info you've given me. One more question: How do I get hold of
the MERANT 3.60 32-BIT PROGRESS SQL92 V9.1D driver? I take it this is a
necessity to have in the System DSN on the workstation that will be
doing any Crystal Reporting in Vantage.

Thank you,

Sue

it smells like a odbc issue.
One thing to note is you have to check your vtg file. It should like
something like below, silly epicor when you install 6.x or one of them
it
changes your vtg file and adds a : I think or some character to the
bottom
where odbc is listed. I think it treats it as a remark. WE have had
very
good luck with changing forms. Some important steps.

1. create a separate folder for modified forms
2. save this wip process form to this location, you will work from this
modified form so you always have the original
3. go to vantage and print preview whatever form you want, this will
create
the dbf file
4. make sure your set the database location. c:\[depends on version of
vantage]
5. hit f5 to refresh form to use data from #4, now you should see what
was
on the print preview
6. have fun.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal Report PROBLEMS when trying to modify forms

He's researching it.

it should be installed automatically. But I think you have to setup the
system dns. I would visit Epicor's web site it should have instructions on
how to do this.
