Thanks for the reply Mark! Sounds like something we may bring in later. Once we get group reporting stable we can refine to the category examples et. al. you mention.
Have a great day!

You can use sales categories as a sub grouping of the customer groups. For example, if you look at the sales order entry line, you will see sales category. You can define these categories and use them on order lines such as (no charge sales, warranty, prototype, etc) That way you can report by customer group but also at the line level. Sales categories can also be used to drive a GL account for sales, but it only changes the division segment so i havent found it real helpful for that in the past.

Subject: [Vantage] Customer Groups and Sales Category
I am using Epicor 9.05.700C. My management staff wants to organize our customers into groups to analyze sales. I would set up Customer groups (E.g. Medical, commercial etc) and assign each customer to one group. In the customer group maintenance, there is also a Sales Category which on the surface appears redundant for what I want to do; particularly since the filters available for Sales Analysis for example, do not include Sales Category. I am wondering what added value assigning a Sales Category to each group may have? If a customer may cross over (temporarily) from its assigned group to another, would that help segregate those sales somehow? Has anyone used these groupings with a Sales Categories that can offer some advice on the best way to set up?
Thanks!
