Customer Performance report

I'm not sure if there is one because shipping performance is such a slippery issue. We have at least 4 different ways of measuring if a shipment was on-time. There is the original "want" date by the customer, the date we acknowledge we will ship by, the date we and the customer agree to change it to (for various reasons including customer spec changes), and finally the internal ship by date (within 2 days of agreed date). Some customers give little or no lead time (1 day for a part which takes 2 weeks to make?) but we still measure customer perception versus our promise (acknowledgement). We use a lot of user fields and VB form date fields for the various dates and then report on those. Oh, and a further complication - partial shipments...where we ship a small part of an order on-time and catch-up with the rest of it later. Often at request of customer - so now we have two or more sets of dates to hit on the various releases and have to try to decide whether we track the small partials at all. Finally shipping performance really comes back to haunt production and shipping people (as a KPI) and becomes a politically and emotionally charged subject. I've never been anywhere where rules and exceptions to rules did not get really tangled after awhile. For these reasons I think such reports are almost always home grown.
