Customer Shipment Entry & Master Pack Address changes via Order Entry

Just curious if anyone has tried to do a change on Customer Shipment Entry for the addresses? I know since that address box for the ship to isn’t really a direct field to change, trying to figure out how to make that dynamic to accept changes from Order entry.

Why this is being done is sometimes we have address ship to that sometimes we really don’t know what it is going to be or we get a last minute change. Usually involving an order large enough we can’t wait to know the real ship to address, so its being done a couple times a week where they have to re-do the entire customer shipment entry process. We do use Masterpack too, which is how this usually get caught?

Out of the box, the Customer Shipment Entry (and Master Pack Shipment Entry) get the address from the associated Sales Order Release… so the typical out-of-the-box solution would be to update the Sales Order Release with either an existing Customer ShipTo address OR a One-Time ShipTo BEFORE you begin the Shipment process.

Yes trying to work around the out of the box setup. I know what they should do and why they do it the way they do predates me, so I can’t change their minds on that.

So still goes back to the problem of trying to change that after they begin that process is what I’m trying to do or at least to see if that is possible with a bpm or customization?

They use the customer shipment as a “Packout” to pallet setup, then use master pack as the actual shipment side. So customer shipment entry is being used to print labels, as a stop to check and scan unique parts, and to the pallet. Which can be part of an order or order line on each pallet. Being married up after the fact at the masterpack level.

To the best of my knowledge you can’t create a MasterPack record if the SO Release ShipTo records aren’t identical.

Beyond that, I don’t think I’d want to mess with the link between SO Release and Shipment ShipTo… what you might consider instead is just creating some UD fields on Customer Shipment Entry and MasterPack Shipment Entry and having your shipping folks enter the address they want to ship to there, and printing that address on the forms. Not usurping the existing functionality, just bypassing it.

Yeah that’s correct, that what creates the problem they have masterpack will not let you do that if it doesn’t match.

So I’ve consider doing what you suggested for using masked addresses on UD fields instead. Thinking more and more that will be what I will have to do to make it work with the existing processes they are using.
