I am using the ChildKey1 field in a UD table as a record counter. Every entry by the user requires a number to be entered in ChildKey1. However, Key fields are string, so when they are sorted in a grid, 1 is followed by 10, etc. Is there a customization that I could apply, such that the entry stored is 01, 02 ... 10,11, etc so that even as a string value, it would display numerically in the grid?
Â
Thanks,
-Karl

I use a UD table that has key2 as a record counter. when I retrieve records using a where clause, I specify 'BY INT(Key2)'

Karl,

You could use a textbox control (not linked directly to UD##.Childkey1 but instead related in code to a character defined variable) and use an appropriate UI Event related to the control (perhaps when the user leaves the control after entering a value and focus is lost) to trigger a sub that checks the length of your variable.

Based upon what you envision a max length will ever be for this data (Childkey1 is length 50 max characters - but you'd probably be safe limiting to 9 or 10 max and perhaps as few as 3 or 4 depoending upon how you are using it), do looping concatenation of "0"s needed to pad out the entered number to its full max length.

The result would then be updated to Childkey1 before exiting the sub. (You may want to then add another textbox control to the app to DISPLAY the resulting ChildKey1 value of the record.)

So for 9 character max length, if user enters "123", subroutine woudl pad it out to "000000123".

Records then sorted on ChildKey1 would sort as you desire (effectively as if it were an integer field).

I have created a customization for the Order Entry screen in Epicor 9.05700B. Is there a way I can associate this customization with the Order Tracker or am I going to be forced to recreate it all over again specifically for the Order Tracker screen?

Thank you,

I have created a new customization for Order Tracker.  I have added a tab.  I want that tab to allow the user to edit that information on the new tab but others to stay read only.  Anyone do something like this before?  I have done this in Entry screen and limited access but just wanted to do it the other way.

Thanks Kim
It's difficult to do this in a Tracker. You basically have to create the fields, unbound and then call the BO's to make the changes yourself.
