There's one thing I will tell you you MUST do, that is to document every single change you make in every way. I use a SharePoint site to document all my BPM's, Menu additions and the menu ID's I used, the customizations I made and where/why.
I also export and save in my own revision control any customization files I created and any BAQ/Dashboards.
The solution manager has already failed to function for me when I tried moving some items to a new machine, namely the customizations I created didn't get installed properly and a third of my BPM's weren't created.
In addition, I don't believe personalizations can be easily moved. You can export them manually one at a time, but it's likely not worth the effort.
