Data Collection Reports

Lonnie,

You're a gentleman and a scholar. It never occurred to me that Progress
would have a problem with field names being different, so long as the data
matched.

Hi All,

When I read "it couldn't be done" ... well .. had to try something..

Jon was right, it will work with a left outer join. Problem SEEMS to
be EmpBasic.EmpID -> LaborHed.EmployeeNum, left outer wouldn't work
with that join, don't know why. I would guess it has something to do
with the name difference (?).

Anyway, I created 2 calculated fields:
TheEmpID with value "trim(empbasic.empid)"
TheDate with value "today() - 1"

Left outer joined EmpBasic -> LaborHed:
EmpBasic.company -> LaborHed.company
TheDate -> LaborHed.payrolldate
TheEmpId -> LaborHed.employeenum

Filtered on:
EmpBasic.company = "YourCompanyField"
EmpBasic.EmpStatus = "A"

Sorted/grouped on EmpBasic.EmpId, created a count aggregate on
LaborHed.LaborHedSeq ingoring unknowns (could've been most anything
in laborhed), and conditionally printed the EmpBasic group line
when "LaborCount = 0".

It seems to work OK. If anyone wants the example I created let me
know.

Lonnie

Hi,

I use Report Builder to create my reports. I have been using Data
Collection for one month. How can I create a report to know the
absent employees ?

Thank You.

Nancy,

Start with EmpBasic and add a left outer join to LaborHed. The filter
should have the date in which you are interested, terminated = no (you don't
want a list of everyone who's ever worked for you), and specify that you
only want records where a field in LaborHed is unknown (ClockInTime for
instance). Unknown is typically shown as '?'. Absent employees will not
have a LaborHed record for that day, so this should give you what you need.

If Shop Tracker (Select Production Detail, Job Management, General Operations, Shop Tracker), there are tabs for "Who is Here" and "Who is Not". Might give you what you need. In a RB report you will also need to take into account the shifts that people are on if you use multiple shifts.

Nancy,

I requested some information on the same report on here several weeks ago. I
am just a beginner, but have not been able to come up with a workable
report. I did come up with a report showing tardy and early leave
employee's.
HR still needs a report showing absent employee's for their records.
Good luck on it and I would be interested to know if you get one that works.

I have been trying to get this kind of report showing absent employees for a
long time and according to Mark Pladson this information is not possible.
Doing a left join and reguesting a certain date for active employees does
not produce the desired result. The report will not show those absent
employees as a ?. It will just skip them. I have tried calculated fields,
different filters, conditional printing, nothing works. If anyone has any
other ideas, please let us know.

You're right. I thought this would work, but after hearing your response
and trying it myself, the left outer join acts just like an inner join.
Ordinarily a left outer join would give all records in the first table
(matched or not) and information from the joined table if there was a match,
'?' if there wasn't. I don't understand why this doesn't behave as it
should.

At any rate, I'm sorry for leading you all down the wrong path. Does anyone
know why the left outer join doesn't work in this case?

Here is another approach for you to consider:

Enter your vacation slips, sick days, personal injury, jury duty time,
training, seminar, whatever in as days attendance with zero PAY HOURS and
use the TRANS SET field for your code, "VAC", "SIC", etc...

Have a watch dog report monitor the field for accuracy.

Create reports for the codes for all kinds of fun stuff.

How much training have we done? (ISO9000 or QS9000)

How many vacation days have I taken this year?

Sell it to your HR Clerk by telling them to monitor the watch dog report and
no one will ever ask you again "How many vacation days do I have left?" You
can tell them to run the report, substitute in your clock number and find
out?

I have been trying to get this kind of report showing absent employees for a
long time and according to Mark Pladson this information is not possible.
Doing a left join and reguesting a certain date for active employees does
not produce the desired result. The report will not show those absent
employees as a ?. It will just skip them. I have tried calculated fields,
different filters, conditional printing, nothing works. If anyone has any
other ideas, please let us know.

Hi,

I use Report Builder to create my reports. I have been using Data
Collection for one month. How can I create a report to know the
absent employees ?

Thank You.

Hi All,

When I read "it couldn't be done" ... well .. had to try something..

Jon was right, it will work with a left outer join. Problem SEEMS to
be EmpBasic.EmpID -> LaborHed.EmployeeNum, left outer wouldn't work
with that join, don't know why. I would guess it has something to do
with the name difference (?).

Anyway, I created 2 calculated fields:
TheEmpID with value "trim(empbasic.empid)"
TheDate with value "today() - 1"

Left outer joined EmpBasic -> LaborHed:
EmpBasic.company -> LaborHed.company
TheDate -> LaborHed.payrolldate
TheEmpId -> LaborHed.employeenum

Filtered on:
EmpBasic.company = "YourCompanyField"
EmpBasic.EmpStatus = "A"

If anyone wants the example I created let me
know.

Lonnie,

Troy's right, you did come through. All we had to say was it could not be
done! Thanks for uploading the report. It looks great.

Thanks.

Hi All,

When I read "it couldn't be done" ... well .. had to try something..

Jon was right, it will work with a left outer join. Problem SEEMS to
be EmpBasic.EmpID -> LaborHed.EmployeeNum, left outer wouldn't work
with that join, don't know why. I would guess it has something to do
with the name difference (?).

Anyway, I created 2 calculated fields:
TheEmpID with value "trim(empbasic.empid)"
TheDate with value "today() - 1"

Left outer joined EmpBasic -> LaborHed:
EmpBasic.company -> LaborHed.company
TheDate -> LaborHed.payrolldate
TheEmpId -> LaborHed.employeenum

Filtered on:
EmpBasic.company = "YourCompanyField"
EmpBasic.EmpStatus = "A"

If anyone wants the example I created let me
know.

Lonnie
