There is a Weekday(date) function that returns the day of the week as an integer from 1 (Sunday) to 7 (Saturday) for that date. You can then use the IN-LIST function to select the appropriate text for a given day number.

I don't know if I quite understand what you are asking but if you want
to use the current date use the function:
Today()
