Digest Number 2063 - This is not a new problem

Todd is 100% correct. In our case we didn't have a lot of customers entered
so a few missing was noticed quickly. I seem to remember being able to
generate a quote or sales order for the "absence" customer by putting in
their cust ID. All the data is there, just not displayed. The problem
seems to relate direct to the absence of information in the sales region
field. A customer doesn't have a default sales region to be converted to a
territory.

What I am seeing is that any screen where you select the customer from a
list the list is missing some customers. Such as selecting a customer for
an order or quote. Selecting a customer for Customer Tracker is the same
way but if the customer is selected from a right-click on an existing
order
it pulls up the tracker data OK. It is affecting about 25% of our
customers
and mostly our oldest and biggest so it was noticed very quickly.

SO, how does one know whether this problem has affected their database or
not. I just converted a test database last night. I'm wondering what
clues
to look for -- what tables are affected -- what screens show the customer,
and what screens hide them??

Well everyone no it has happened before. Back at the end of July.

Our company was the same boat. We started at 5.1 and didn't use the
"sales
region" field.
For the record, the customers are not lost, only unseen. Tim Ligas was
out
on site and got us fixed up once we figured out his presence was really
necessary.

Epicor is working on this issue right now. I am going to FTP a copy of my
5.20 DB to them. A curious thing we just noticed about 30 minutes ago was
that ALL of the missing customers were customers that were converted to 4.0
when we migrated from Classic (the AS/400 predecessor to Vantage).
Customers added after that conversion are not affected. Epicor did the
conversion for us and in the process all the customers were assigned "tax
region" codes. This did not cause a problem in 4.0. We do not use tax
region codes because we do not collect sales tax. I do NOT think the tax
region code has anything to do with this other than being a coincidence from
the Classic conversion, rather I suspect it is something else burried in the
customer record that came from Classic. There was however some discussion
of conversions from 3.0 to 4.0 and perhaps that conversion was similar to
the Classic DB load that Epicor did.

Also, the customer does not "go away" it is in the master file just fine.
All the data is there and I can report on it with RB and even access it via
Customer Tracker when accessed from a sales order (right-clicking to open
with Customer Tracker). So no data was lost. It just can not be accessed
with the selection browser - which make it impossible to open with customer
maintenance and manually change info to see what is causing the problem.

So I suspect, due to the head scratching going on by support, that this is a
really rare situation not seen before and will not affect the majority of
Vantage users. In the mean time support is doing their usual excellent job
of helping me out with this and whatever eventually fixes it will be
available if anyone else happens to be in the same boat.

We to are experiencing the same issue. In our case when we went to 4.0, we
created an entirely new database and imported as much data, via the
Import/Export utility, from 3.0 as possible. The Customer Master was one of
the master files we exported, edited and imported. I also suspect the only
customers visible in the Customer Master are the customers created
subsequent to the conversion. Additionally, we do use Tax Region Codes of
which we created new prior to going live with 4.0.

There were some issues with the import utility specific to how the part
plant records were created as it relates to the Multi-Site Management
Module. We use the Multi-Site Management module configured multi plant and
have been using the module from the start. This issue may or may not be
related, it just shows there were some problems in the importing routine.

I would concur with Todd's suspicions that it is unique to certain
companies. Given our less than typical conversion/upgrade path we too find
ourselves in this category.

Hi Todd,
This territory thing you are talking about, what exactly is it?
Is that the "region" field in customer maintenance? If it is, I am
curious to know if this means that all my customers will go "bye bye"
when I try to convert over. My company does not use this field since we
really don't have a "sales region".

Thanks for the info on suspect/prospect.
We are on 5.20.210 (on test platform) and customers w/o territories are
not displaying. Epicor sent a fix (CVCUST_TERRITORY.R) to ulock the
territory flag. Some problem along the way in converting from 4.00 to
5.20 (I suspect in the 5.1 to 5.2 phase). -Todd C.

difference

customers without territories were not displaying in the browser in
5.20.206 but this fixed in .207

A suspect is no quotes or orders
A prospect is quotes but no orders
Set up new suspects when chasing leads and on entering a (quoted?) quote
it auto changes to prospect enter a SO and it changes from prospect to
customer.

I think its in the help
