One clarification: We're using the adv sched module and it does support
multiple resources per operation.

John,

I think what they are talking about is the ability to schedule multiple
resources to complete an operation contiguously, that is, having one
independent resource pick up where another leaves off. Which is
different from having multiple scheduling blocks assigned which will
assign multiple resources but they'll schedule in a parallel fashion.
In my opinion the biggest downfall of this scheduling engine. If they
fixed it, it would really be a fairly decent one, not a great one, but a
decent one.

Good Morning,

I have been trying to create a workflow to allow the sending of attachment information when an attachment is added to a job material. I have all the code wrote for it, the only problem I am having is with the data directive to store information from the XFileAttch table so it is available to me. I am executing some ABL code to store XFileAttch values in Character01-04 on a UD table. It picks up the data I want, but not until I do a refresh on the form. Is there a way around this refresh step so the data will be available right after the ABL code has executed, or even code to force the form to refresh? Currently when it is sendng the email, it is sending the data from the last previous added attachment, not the current attachment. Also, I am executing the code to send the email after the GetNewJobMtlAttch method on the JobEntry BO.

Thanks,
Ted

I placed the code before the GetNewJobMtlAttch method and it is still producing the same results. The email code I am executing is actually in a customization using sub oTrans_jobAdapter_BeforeAdapterMethod, I am only using a BPM data directive to get the Job Number, Asm, and MtlSeq and filename from the XFileAttch table and transferring it to a UD table which works fine. It seems like it doesn't commit the new data in time for the dataview to see it. Just the previous attachment information is pulled in each time.

Are all of your machines/servers, including whatever controls the buzzers, synced to the same NTP server? If not, that might be your problem. If so, perhaps check the scheduled sync intervals, there's plenty of information out there via Google. Also make sure the "Windows Time" service (assuming Windows) is running on all machines.

I hope that helps,

SB

Wanted to see how/if people deal with the following scenario.

An order line for a direct direct, non stock item, for $25,000 if cancelled.
The job to make the item is 50% complete, so we will be billing the
customer 50% of the total, $12,500. How do you process this change through
the system. Some parts can be return to stock and other are going to
the scraped.

- How to you process the job?
- Do you change the demand link?
- What you do bill the customer for?
- New line item?

Any insight, from both an accounting and a production point of view, on how
other companies to, this how be helpful.

Thanks,

We are on 9.04.507A, and my CFO wants to change from Avg to either Std or FIFO (not decided which yet).

1. Your message below indicates that the DMT will do this in a single pass, rather than set inventory to zero, change cost method, set inventory back (3 passes). I just want to confirm that is so.

2. FIFO is greyed out in the Cost Adjustment screen. Do I need to add values (via either DMT or SQL update) or will the system calculate them for me?

Thanks,

We did this last October (but in 8.03) We used Service Connect first to zero out the inventory via ADJ-QTY, then to change cost method, then to reimport the quantities. Service Connect isn't fast but it left a great audit trail. And as we applied this to other companies, we could use the same workflows

Calvin,

Thank you so much for your help. I set it up in the test system yesterday and it worked perfectly. Did the same in our live system this morning and we now have PO numbers on checks.

Thanks again,

Dave

I am just getting to order thermal label printers. It looks to me like all the labels are pretty standard and I should be able to use a printer with a 4 inch width except for the receiving labels - these are 6 inches. I am thinking I can program the printer to rotate these. Can I ask what kind of printers users find work well with the system and if there was any special set-up involved. I have customized the labels thru Crystal but did not change any sizes.

Thanks- Pat

We've used a few from Zebra. They've been pretty much indestructible in our
experience. As far as crystal goes, just set your page size right and
you're good to go.

Intermec is my preference, but as someone else said, Zebra is also a great choice.

I have used Intermec’s PC41 for years without problems. The PF4i’s are good for higher volume.

Subject: [Vantage] Labels

I am just getting to order thermal label printers. It looks to me like all the labels are pretty standard and I should be able to use a printer with a 4 inch width except for the receiving labels - these are 6 inches. I am thinking I can program the printer to rotate these. Can I ask what kind of printers users find work well with the system and if there was any special set-up involved. I have customized the labels thru Crystal but did not change any sizes.

Thanks- Pat

We are using Intermet PM4i. They are easy to use and durable.

Are we correct in our understanding with regard to Epicor licensing that if the Epicor client app were to call functions from the .dll, we would maintain the current session with Epicor and not cause the license
server to count another license in use as it does now when the .exe is
doing its work?

Epicor licenses are expensive. So, I don't want to use two
licenses to support for one actual user seat, even if it is only a
transient operation.

Otherwise I'd have to convert the app from .exe to .dll to save on the licensing; correct?

Generally speaking, every time you open a new session, Epicor dings a
license. For practical purposes, as long as you dispose your session when
your done and don't try to keep it open all the time, you should be fine.

Jim, if you’re calling from the client app (already open) you will not burn another seat. Only if you opened another session would that be the case.

We have several convoluted manual processes that our management would like to automate. Right now we have to have people from three different departments (Quality, Purchasing, Finance) physically sign off on new suppliers before they can be entered into the system. Would the Workflow Management part of the PLM add-on allow this to be automated? Another sister company is looking at PLM for document management within the ECN and Part processes as well. Does anyone have any experience with it?

We are using .606 as well and have been noticing some issues along the same lines. I haven't exactly determine how and why it is occurring but it does seem as though there is something not working correctly.

We see this behavior when you switch user ID's within the application. We have found that we have to completely close Epicor first if we want to change users.

Are you using DHCP or fixed IP addressing on the client?
I have Win7 on my laptop at home and every 30 min or so it was requesting new DHCP address and it kept disconnecting my RDP session - I set it to fixed address and that was that
