Hi Fausto,

I've been using the 30-day trial version of Diskeeper Server 8 on our Vantage server (NT4 Terminal Server) for a few weeks. I found that I could safely defrag the volume on which the Vantage db lives, but Diskeeper will not touch the db files or other open and locked files when NT is loaded. If you specifically want the db files defragged, I suggest you let Diskeeper perform its boot-time defrag on the volume. Boot-time defrags seem very effective, since the OS and hence Vantage and other normally locked files are not loaded, Diskeeper can defrag them. This includes swap files!

FYI, boot-time defrags can take a while, but the good news is that Diskeeper 8 allows you to schedule a server restart at the time of your choosing specifically for this purpose. And of course it goes without saying, before you let Diskeeper loose on the db files...

BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP :-)

Hope this is helpful,

I want to schedule defrags automatically on my Vantage Server using Diskeeper. Is it necessary to exclude the EPIC5x directory and the working directory (vntgwrk5x) from the defrag process?

Thanks,
