A lot depends on where you are coming from. We re-implemented from Vantage 6.1 to E10. Got rid of over 10 years of “baggage†in terms of transactions and obsolete parts & customers. Also the change from Work Centers to Resource Groups and Machines to Resources forced a reexamination of layout of the plant and “what belongs to whatâ€. G/L chart capabilities changed and allowed restructuring a few things. Main thing was to set up the system as the company exists “now†not continue to live with the setup from 10+ years ago. Clean slate.
But… converting the data we wanted to bring along (especially methods) was a lot of work – even with DMT which was invaluable to the process. Complicating things was the company had left Vantage a couple years before for a cloud based system called Plex (very bad mistake) so we had to import things from there as well as Vantage. Re-implementing from E9 might be easier but still a chance to redefine everything and clean house – especially if a long time user going back to Vantage days. We actually came from DCD-Classic way back when. It took us 9 months from install of E10 to go-live at our main plant in MN and today we go live at our other site in Phoenix.

Subject: [Vantage] E10 Conversion vs Upgrade
What things would we need to consider to decide if we should re-implement or upgrade for E10? We would like to change a lot of things including changing the Base UOM's for several classes and removing a lot of old warehouses. Thanks,
John
