[E9] BPM Question

Before I go ahead and start messing around I figured it would be best to understand what it's purpose is and what it means, to even begin with...

To my understanding thus far with the information that I was able to find....
BPM base elements:
Method Directives
Data Directives
Updateable BAQ Directives
Holds
Data Form Designer

Now, regarding the Holds:
Use BPM holds to define an external hold event linked to a business object which in turn may be set through a BPM action. BPM directives may then be created on other business objects and methods to evaluate whether a hold exists and then modify the business process as you need. BPM holds extend the regular status holds built into the application. You can then define and evaluate your own hold conditions based on your business workflows.

Does anyone know if there is a way use BPM or something to have a warning or
stop box pop up open when someone tries to work on or complete a final
operation of the job that doesn't have all the mat'l issue to it? I've
started looking at BPMs in the tools manual, but I'm not sure where to
start? Any help would be great.

When creating a BPM that is designed to send an e-mail once the BPM is fired, is there a way to include in the e-mail which user caused the BPM to fire? For instance, if I want to send out an e-mail to management when a new job is created, I would like the email to include the name of the user who created the new job.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,

First of all, it is not a user causing BPM to fire, it is a particular
event defined by you.

Yes, you can attached to BPM any information you need to. Just start to
compose e-mail template, right click and you will be able to choose
Field or Table, where you will be able to select any field/table
you want to include either to e-mail subject or e-mail body.

If you need more detailed information, please ask

Thanks for your response. I realize that you can put info from a field/table into an e-mail,such as job #, Customer Name, etc. But say for instance, I have a BPM setup that only allows certain users to create jobs. When a user whotries to create a job doesn't have the proper priveleges, the BPMfires and stops the job from actually being created. So there really isn't a"job" record that has been created, thus there isn't a field/table that I can pull into the e-mail that would indicate whichuser had caused the BPM to fire. A bigger question is why users not allowed to create jobs have been given access to apps to do just that. (Why not limit them to Trackers only?)

If you do have a compelling reason for the access, you can trap the event before_update while the unwritten to the 'real' tables application temp (tt) data still exists. You might be able to generate your email using the tt data (even though it never will get written to create a 'real' job header).

??possibilities??

I can read session parameters like userid, sessionid etc using VB.NET
within ScriptEditor (Customisation), but I have never try it within
BPM. I agree with you that it will be very usefull.

Maybe someone can share some code in VB.NET and the instruction
how to use it within BPM?

The simplest answer would be - because they can do changes within
job_entry but they are not allowed to create jobs.

But in this case I would suggest to use a policy on Process Level.
Security Maintenance -> Process Security
You can there restrict Creating the Job for certain user.

Good Evening Everyone

I have been trying to create a bpm the will automatically fill in a sales category in order entry when the counter sales is checked but it is not working

This is the only thing I have in my preprocessing BPM (no other actions or conditions) under advanced.

for each ttOrderHed where ttOrderHed.CounterSale=TRUE no-lock ,

each ttOrderDtl where ttOrderDtl.Company = ttOrderHed.Company and

ttOrderDtl.OrderNum = ttOrderHed.OrderNum exclusive-lock:

assign ttOrderDtl.SalesCatID="0901".

end.

Nothing happens - I do not seem to be able to make it run. Is there something I have done wrong? Is there a way to throw up a message when it fires?

Thanks!

Hi Dale,

The easy one first: "Is there a way to throw up a message when it
fires?".

You can use the following in 4GL code to display a message:
{lib/PublishInfoMsg.i &InfoMsg = "'This is my message'"}
- note the double- *and* single-quote before/after the text. Or:
{lib/PublishInfoMsg.i &InfoMsg = "ttOrderHed.CounterSale"}
- note there's just a double-quote before/after the field.

BTW, you can use the following to throw an exception:
{lib/PublishEx.i &ExMsg = "'This is my exception'"}
{&THROW_PRIVATE}.

Regarding your BPM, try the following:
a pre-processing directive against the SalesOrder.Update BO

condition: number of rows in the <query> is equal to 1

query: for each ttOrderDtl where ttOrderDtl.RowMod = 'A' or
ttOrderDtl.RowMod = 'U' no-lock , each OrderHed where
ttOrderDtl.Company = OrderHed.Company and ttOrderDtl.OrderNum =
OrderHed.OrderNum and OrderHed.CounterSale = true no-lock

action: set the OrderDtl.SalesCatID field of the changed row to the
"0901" value

Nigel.

Here's the scenario:

For every sales order that our company enters we also enter a Project
ID. Each line of the sales order has the same project ID number as the
sales order number. When they enter the new project number they grab
they copy the cumber of the current sales order that they are working
on. In the description area for the project entry screen they input the
customer's bill to name in the sales order.

Is it possible to create a BPM to automate the project entry steps for
each order line on the sales order? I'm not too familiar with BPM's, but
will take any advice and help on getting this started if it is possible.

Thanks in advance for the replies and advice.

Hi Travis,

Just curious - do you create a Project ID for every sales order so you can capture all the labor costs associated with that particular sales order?

The reason for asking is we are in the implementation phase, and are trying to figure out how to track the labor costs on sales orders.

Thanks in advance,
Jennifer

I am assuming that you are using a user defined field for the Project ID in
the OrderHed and the OrderDtl files - character01 as an example.

for each ttOrdDtl where (ttOrderDtl.RowMod='A' or ttOrderDtl.rowmod='U')
no-lock,
first OrderHed where OrderHed.Company = ttOrderDtl.Company and
OrderHed.OrderNum = ttOrderDtl.OrderNum no-lock. Assign
ttOrderDtl.Character01 = OrderHed.Character01. End.

I hope that this helps.

Subject: [Vantage] BPM Question

Here's the scenario:

For every sales order that our company enters we also enter a Project
ID. Each line of the sales order has the same project ID number as the
sales order number. When they enter the new project number they grab
they copy the cumber of the current sales order that they are working
on. In the description area for the project entry screen they input the
customer's bill to name in the sales order.

Is it possible to create a BPM to automate the project entry steps for
each order line on the sales order? I'm not too familiar with BPM's, but
will take any advice and help on getting this started if it is possible.

Thanks in advance for the replies and advice.

Are you just wanting to dump the Project ID number which is going to be the
same as the Sales Order Number into every OrderDtl.Line into
OrderDtl.ProjectID
from the Project.ProjectID?

It would be a simple BPM using update table buffer command.

Let me forward you the BPM when I log in.

How can I get the value of text box on a form into a BPM? I have tried to use the SCREEN-VIEW but the compiler keeps asking for a frame name and I don't know this information.

Hi Tim,

Essentially any data pieces on a form are now in your TT tables. If you have
a text box that isn't tied to a column that is being updated (and available
during your BPM) then you need to do this first.
