E9 - Logic for Job Material Purchase Direct Checkbox

Why ARE you creating make to order jobs for parts you want to make to stock and receive? (I'm going through several days of unread posts (100's: been a very busy last few days and I fell behind)Â and should have asked that question 1st.)
Â
Why ARE these parts set as nonstock if you predominantly want to receive them to stock? (Error in set up or some dual conditional need not made clear that could erhaps be handled a more elegant way?).
Â
Why even generating jobs for purchased items? (Purchase/made direct or not? - Stock versus NonStock status of part determines it for purch or fab parts) - or is that just some semantical confusion in the question?

We are struggling to understand if/when the Purchase Direct checkbox for material on a job is checked automatically by the system. The field help states what happens WHEN it's checked, but doesn't say HOW it gets checked. I expect the state to be based on several factors including part master record fields, but so far, I have not been able to make sense if it.

This should be based strictly on if it is a stock or non-stock part, set in the part-plant

That's also my understanding - non-stock checkbox.

Thanks for the replies, that sure makes sense now.

Turns out, someone had updated the part record and unchecked the Non-Stock checkbox before they came asking the question. When I started looking into the job, the state of Purchase Direct was caused by the state of the part master before they made the change. Shame on me for not asking the simple question, "Have you made any changes?"
