If it is intermixed with other code, I would just make the text box and button invisible, make both the location and size 0,0 and leave the code alone.  Create a new search button for the new criteria.  That way nothing “breaks” and your user’s are none wiser.

My confusion is how much to delete in the script editor.  I can delete the button but the code stays in the script editor.  I will play with it and maybe I will figure it out. 
 
I did export and I am doing this in my training environment.

For an existing customization that you no longer wish to use it in its entirety, change the menu so it doesn't point to it.  You can delete the customization if desired.  You can do this by turning on developer mode, launch screen, highlight the customization and click delete.  Also can do it from customization maintenance.  Good idea to do an export first so you have a copy if you change your mind.
 
If the customization has other stuff you want to keep then your only choice is to hand edit/remove the code and controls you no longer need.  Many do a Save As,giving the customization a new name, make the changes and then change the menu to point to the new version.  To minimize clutter removing code is better than commenting it out.  A new named version will lose personalization for the users

I had created a customization and added a button to search for Resource and fill in Text box.  It works great but they changed their mind on what they want to search on.  How to I cleanly delete or remove the old customization?  I keep having the old stuff in the script editor and causing issues.  I have a lot of customization and dread needing to start over.

If it is intermixed with other code, I would just make the text box and button invisible, make both the location and size 0,0 and leave the code alone.  Create a new search button for the new criteria.  That way nothing “breaks” and your user’s are none wiser.

My confusion is how much to delete in the script editor.  I can delete the button but the code stays in the script editor.  I will play with it and maybe I will figure it out. 

 

I did export and I am doing this in my training environment.

For an existing customization that you no longer wish to use it in its entirety, change the menu so it doesn't point to it.  You can delete the customization if desired.  You can do this by turning on developer mode, launch screen, highlight the customization and click delete.  Also can do it from customization maintenance.  Good idea to do an export first so you have a copy if you change your mind.

 

If the customization has other stuff you want to keep then your only choice is to hand edit/remove the code and controls you no longer need.  Many do a Save As,giving the customization a new name, make the changes and then change the menu to point to the new version.  To minimize clutter removing code is better than commenting it out.  A new named version will lose personalization for the users
