Email Setup (Global Alerts Not Working)

We don't use tasks so I haven't looked at them too much, but I did
get one working:
* I setup 1, 2 and 3 like you said.
* In 1, what Global Alert did you use? I used "Task has been
assigned".
* You don't mention it, but I presume you then created a Task Set and
added in the Task you created as a Milestone. I set the "Current
Stage" as "Lead" for that Milestone.
* I then assigned this new Task Set to a particular Territory,
assigned that Territory to a specific Customer and created a new
Quote for that Customer. As soon as I did, I got an email.

(Do a search on you Vantage server for the other logfile. It may just
be in a different folder.)

HTH,

Nigel.

Hello,

We are trying to get our Global Alerts working and, therefore, need
to get email working. I have followed all the steps (at least I
think I have) and it still does not seem to be working. I am trying
to alert the salesperson when a task is assigned to them. The
salesperson has an email, and the alert has been activated. Here is
what I have done:

1. Under Company Config, I have set the Port to 7000, entered the
email and label, and set my smtp name and port

2. In SystemAgent, my schedule is enabled and has the Global Alerts
task listed. It's type is listed as "Start Up"

3. In System Management / Utilities / Global Alerts Email Server
Process, the "Continuous Processing" and "Recurring" boxes are
checked. However, the schedule is "Now." When I try to select "Start
Up" from the dropdown it asks me to pick a process set... none of
which are related to global alerts. So, I just left it as "Now." I'm
not sure where this schedule came from though... it wasn't listed in
the SystemAgent area.

4. We restarted the ProcessServer and TaskAgent databases
afterwards.

Other than the schedule issue listed above, I have followed all the
steps according to the Help file. Vantage doesn't seem to be
generating a log file either, so I cannot view any errors.

Any tips on what I could try or where I could look to troubleshoot
would be great. Your help is appreciated, thank you.
Two other things you need to do:
1. Specify your email server in the default.mfgsys file. The file is
located in \epicor\mfgsys803\client\config. Search inside the file
for "smtpserver value" and enter the server name.
2. Make sure your Exchange server allows relaying from your Vantage
server.

The email logs are found in \epicor\mfgwrk803 by default. there's two
of them: GlobalAlertsEmail.log and epicor-smtp.log.txt

HTH,

Nigel.

Thanks Nigel,

I will ask our system administrator to edit the sys file. As for the
logs, we have looked in that directory and they are nowhere to be
found. That is the directory specified in the "log" field of the
process screen, but it doesn't seem to be generating anything. Any
ideas as to why this is hapenning? Thanks.

Best I can come up with is that there's no logs because no emails are
being sent. Maybe they'll be created if the first suggestion solves
your problem.

You also need to create a startup" schedule and then assign your Global Alerts Email Server Process to that schedule. This allows the process to run continuously.

Okay,

It looks like our log file has been created! The only problem now is
that I don't seem to be receiving emails. In addition, the log
doesn't seem to be producing any errors. Does the system have to be
restarted after changing the smtp setting in the config file? Below
are the steps I have taken to have alerts sent to a salesperson when
a Task is assigned to them:

1) Activate the task alert in Global Alert Maintenance
1a. once there, I check the boxes "Active" and "Send Alert"
1b. I set the "From" email and Label
1c. I leave the TO: and CC: boxes blank assuming that the "Specific
Recipient: Salesperson" area means that the email will be sent to
the salesperson who the task is assigned to. (Note: I have also
tried filling in the TO: field and still have not received an email)

2) Set the salesperson's email in Work Force Maintenance
2a. Also checked the "Send Alert:" box

3) Create a task
3a. Make sure the send alert on creation and completion boxes are
checked

I don't think I am missing anything in this process, but I am still
not receiving any emails. If I have missed something or can try
something else, I would really appreciate the input. Below is a
snippet of my GlobalAlertsEmail log file. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this has been "fixed" in v8 versus v6, but in v6,
there's some really strange correlation in v6 between Alert Groups, the
spelling of names of members of the Alert Group, and the spelling of the
names of the User and/or Employee records. Perhaps the emails are being
created and you just don't receive them because they're going to the
wrong/unknown addressee? Can you check the logs of the email server and
see if it may have simply rejected messages that were attempted by the
Vantage alert process?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I would start with something simple until you get it up and running:

Create a new BAM on the Customer table, add in the CustID field only,
no rules, tick "Create Log" and "Send Alert" and add your own email
address into "To".

Than create a new Customer. As soon as you save it, you should get an
email.

Things to check:
* does your Exchange server require authorisation. AFAIK, Vantage
can't supply a username/password so you may have to switch this off.
* did you check that your Exchange server allows relaying from your
Vantage server?
* you mention the GlobalAlertsEmail.log. What about the epicor-
smtp.log.txt? Has this been created? It's this log that records
communications with your Exchange Server.

Thank you Nigel for your detailed instructions as this was my first
time using BAM. I created the alert and... it worked!

Now that my email seems to be working, I have to figure out why my
task alerts are not being sent. I will try and look into the
salesperson names as mentioned earlier, but I believe everything is
correct in that regard. Are there any other places I may be able to
look.

Also, the epicor-smtp.log.txt is still not being created, which is a
bit strange.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel on this issue, thanks for
all your help!
