Epicor 9.05 SQL

That makes sense. And Ned corrected himself that he was speaking for an OpenEdge database, not SQL. Thanks to both of you!

Getting ready to build a new server for 9.05 with Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, 64-bit SQL 2008 R2, RAID 10 solid-state drives, 48gb memory and dual Intel Xeon quad-cores at 2.93 mHz. Our database under 9.04.507a is 15gb.

So what's the recommendations for 32-bit vs. 64-bit OpenEdge? We realize we need a 32-bit client for the Admin Tools. Is it worth it to get 64-bit OpenEdge working with 64-bit SQL?
Yes, in the long run it is most likely worth it to get 64-bit Open-Edge
working with 64-bit SQL because it will allow for all the progress
appservers to use more than the restricted 2GB that the 32-bit version
allows for use.

Also, don't forget to go from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a dump and load of
the database.

Are you saying we have to Dump the 32-bit 9.04 Schema Holder and Load it to
the 9.05 64-bit Schema Holder? So we have to ask Epicor for the Dump and
Load Kit for that? Or is it included in the install and patch software?

We're going from 9.04.507a 64-bit SQL 32-bit OpenEdge to 9.05.604 64-bit SQL
64-bit OpenEdge .

Sorry, my error.

I was reading SQL but thinking Progress.

The D&L only needs to be done with the progress version.

Not true, this is about the only architecture migration Progress supports
without dump and load. Just truncate the BI in the 32-bit world and start
it in the 64-bit world.

Of course it does not hurt to do a dump and load. You can do that any time
you like, but there's no reason to make that part of the migration process.

Chris is planning to use SQL Server. That means OpenEdge AppServers will
not use shared memory to connect to the database. Instead, ODBC over IP
be used.

Hence, there is no demand for huge shared memory segments, which means you
might as well use 32-bit OpenEdge. It will connect to 64-bit SQL Server just
fine.
