Epicor Vantage on terminal services

we currently are on 8.03.409c. we run vantage on terminal services for our handhelds to connect to, without any problems.

Epicor tell you alot of things that are nto correct. i was informed that vantage 8.03.409c couldnt run on xp 64 bit but i found users that are currently on it. I havent made progress on the project but the fact that ppl are on it is proof enough that it works.

Hello all,

Disclaimer: I am very new to Epicor (and IT in general), but I have been hired as the IT Manager for a small business and am doing my best to learn the systems.

I have recently been asked to try to get a definitive answer regarding Vantage on virtual desktops. Our company is currently operating on Vantage 8.03.409C, but has been kicking around the idea of upgrading to Epicor 9. The reason for the potential upgrade to Epicor 9 is that the company is interested in moving to terminal services, so that each user has a virtual desktop instead of the large number of physical workstations that we currently have.

Appparently (according to my IT predecessor), Epicor's offical answer is that Vantage 8.03.409C will not function correctly on a virtual desktop. The reason for questioning whether this is truly the case is taht we were also told that Vantage would not run on Windows 7, but we found that to not be the case.

Does anyone have any experience with Vantage 8.03.409 on terminal services, and, if so, what was the outcome?

Thanks!

Jay
We use Vantage 8.03.409C on a virtual server (the app and SQL are on a virtual server) and then our terminal servers are also virtual servers.

Your predecessor was misinformed and misspoke. Epicor and Vantage work just
fine in a remote environment. I use Vantage 8.03.609C daily with remote
desktop including doing customizations, etc. Works just fine.

Hello all,

Disclaimer: I am very new to Epicor (and IT in general), but I have been
hired as the IT Manager for a small business and am doing my best to learn
the systems.

I have recently been asked to try to get a definitive answer regarding
Vantage on virtual desktops. Our company is currently operating on Vantage
8.03.409C, but has been kicking around the idea of upgrading to Epicor 9.
The reason for the potential upgrade to Epicor 9 is that the company is
interested in moving to terminal services, so that each user has a virtual
desktop instead of the large number of physical workstations that we
currently have.

Appparently (according to my IT predecessor), Epicor's offical answer is
that Vantage 8.03.409C will not function correctly on a virtual desktop. The
reason for questioning whether this is truly the case is taht we were also
told that Vantage would not run on Windows 7, but we found that to not be
the case.

Does anyone have any experience with Vantage 8.03.409 on terminal services,
and, if so, what was the outcome?

Thanks!

It depends on if we are talking about virtual desktops (i.e. VMware's VDI or Hyper-v VDI) or RDP. When you start talking about terminal services it sounds like we are talking about RDP session. If that is the case there should be no problem at all running Vantage. If you are talking about true VDI, I have no experience with it, but would assume it should work, considering the server and client open and operate with no issue at all on our VMware virtual devices.

Separately but related, has anyone run Epicor 9 as a virtual app in WS2K8
(not virtual desktop)?
