Error message 998 -- what does it mean?

Sandy
What version of Vantage are you on and what version of Crystal are
you using?
I'm on Vantage 4.0 and have to use Crytal 7.0.
If you are on 5.2 or later Crystal 8.5 will work.

Also from the Crytal Desions knowledge base

Error 997 and error 998 occurs on client machine with PEOpenPrintJob

The information in the article refers to:
Seagate Crystal Reports 7

Applies to:

Reported version only
Print Engine (API) calls
Error 997 and 998
Graphing

Synopsis

A Microsoft Visual Basic application, using Crystal Print Engine
(API) calls, produces error 997 or error 998 when run on a client
machine. This error occurs immediately after a report is called in
the application.

Tracing the code reveals that the error occurs at the start of
PEOpenPrintJob.

The report contains several charts/graphs..

Solution

The application is missing Sscsdk32.dll. Deploying this DLL to the
client machine solves the problem.

Sscsdk32.dll is the Crystal Reports charting DLL.

I changed the crystal forms that we use and inserted our new logo. Now I
have two pc's that get an error 998 when they try to print any of the forms
(invoices, quotes, etc). It originally said that it couldn't find
CRPE32.DLL and I copied this to the two pc's but it still gives me the error
998. No one else has the problem. One pc is W98 and one is W2000.

Also, is there a place you can look up what error messages mean?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what an 998 error is. Crystal Decisions' website always seems
a bit vague when it comes to crystal errors. Whenever we get errors with
forms it always seems to be down to a few common areas. In your case I'd
have a look at the following (if you haven't already been there)

- Crystal report size is larger than the default printer page size.
- dbf files aren't in the place the report expects them to be (can happen if
the user has a vtg file on their desktop rather than a link and they mess!)
- Dodgy printer connected directly to the users PC. This is a weird one we
had users with HP Deskjets which produced all kinds of strange results and
messages until we moved them to print on a network laserjet. We tried
everything to no avail.
- mismatch in the crystal reports DLL versions.

Hope this helps.
