Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation

Also, have you cleared the users cache?

-E9. from main menu bar, Options --> "Clear Client Cache"

I have used this to resolve a lot of unexplained behavior.
Hi,

We are on Epicor 9.04.506C.

I have a user that is trying to use Epicor for the first time. His PC has had Epicor installed on it for a couple of years as it came from a previous user. When he tried to open his client, he got the following error:

Error Detail
============
Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE))

Stack Trace
===========
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementEventWatcher.Start()
at Epicor.Mfg.Lib.NetworkMonitor.watchEvent(String eventName)
at Epicor.Mfg.Lib.NetworkMonitor.Start()
at Epicor.Mfg.UI.Suspend..ctor(Form mainForm, Session session)
at Epicor.Mfg.UI.MenuForm.loadUserSettings(String userID)
at Epicor.Mfg.UI.MenuForm.SetupComponent()
at Epicor.Mfg.UI.App.Launch.ShowMenuForm()
at Epicor.Mfg.UI.App.Launch.ShowDialog(String[] args)

I tried to uninstall his client but got an error that said:

Error 1606. Could not access network location INSTALLDIR.

I verified he has access to all of the network shares and then tried to uninstall the client from his PC as a domain admin. However, logged in as the administrator, it didn't even show that Epicor was installed on the PC. I finally got it uninstalled by running the install again from the network and choosing Remove instead of change or repair.

Once I got it reinstalled, I once again tried to open the client. I now get the following error:

Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

I have tried running as the administrator and have tried running it for a couple of environments with the same result.

If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Adele
When you do the actual install, does the entire contents of the client
folder get filled?

This is often an error from the auto-update not running correctly.

Local permissions on the Documents and Settings folders are not allowing the
full permissions to write the local files.

The install does not copy all the files to the client folder, however I manually copied the client folder from the server onto the user's PC.

How can I check that the auto-update ran correctly?

Thanks!
Adele

I deleted an unused decimal box from a configurator.  There is no reference to the decimal box in any of my AppServer code.  Now if I try to test inputs in Configurator Designer I get the "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" error message.  Anyone know why I'm getting this error and how to resolve it?  I'm on Epicor 9 version 905.701.

Try clearing your PCrules files, things get “stuck” in there and will continue to be part of your compile for some reason.

Brenda
