Financial Reporting - Multi-Column/Period Comparison

You should look at XL Connect. Not expensive and gives you complete freedom to build whatever financial statements you want in Excel

In implementation and our financial accountant is looking for a way to do what she calls "Multi-Column Comparison." I'm sure any accountants out there understand this, but if not, here is what she showed me.
Using the Income Statement as an example, having the ability to select and choose two different periods to compare on the Income Statement so that they are side by side on the report or whatever. Say to compare July 2012 and July 2011 side by side so we can see how we are doing compared to last year in the same period. We are working with a consultant but she did not think Epicor supported that with FRD nor AFR.
Seems like something that many other companies would need or want to do, so I was wondering is there is anyone out there doing this and how they are accomplishing it.
Thanks!

Rick:
I seem to remember something about AFR getting that functionality with the .700 release.
At the Epicor conference there was a presentation by a CFO who I believe talked about this. You might still be able to find the materials online.

Sylvia,
Thanks, I found something on 9.05.607 here: https://epicweb.epicor.com/resources/Pages/HighlightsofEpicor905700ServicePack.aspx?
But this is a feature presentation, I'm watching it now, but I don't see anything in the intro yet.
I didn't go to Insights so I don't have access to the presentations or material. Any chance you or someone else can send it to me?

Thanks!

Being clever and using subreports in Crystal would accomplish this. I've
done it before. You'll need to hit your DB twice, once for "this" period
and once for the "prior" period. "This" period could be in your BAQ and
then the subreport could hit your db again via ODBC, or a XML dump of the
respective tables. or if you're SQL you could do it in a view and pass SQL
Expressions from Crystal.

I once had a baq report that had GLACCOUNT as the primary, and then used GLPeriodBal - this was from a previous version of Vantage 8, so it took 2 years of GLperiodBal and then based on selection criteria, the Crystal decided which column to put the MTD balance into.

Write a BAQ which contains all data for both periods, export results to

Manasa,
We have asked our financial consultant how to do it and she said she didn't think it was possible. If there is a way to do this can you give us some guidance? It doesn't seem obvious to me... but I'm not a finance guy and our Finance Accountant hasn't been able to figure it out yet.

You can do this in the standard financial reporting in the general ledger module.
In fact if you use the standard wizard on the income statement, it creates it for you and you can use as an example
You have yearly and periodic offsets in the column settings
Wizard gives you
Account, Description, Current Period, Cur Period Last Year, Variance, Current YTD, YTD Last Year, Year variance

Rick, as Manasa said, this is basic functionality in the financial report designer. In your column set, add a column next to your current period called Prior Period (or whatever you like) Use actual to report the detail for that column set. You can use an offset to look at the same period one year ago
Â
Attached is the document which has been circulated on the group that gives you more detail on using the financial report designer
