Forecast Consumption of Configured Components

John

As you already know, forecast will only get consumed if a sales order is
entered for that part/customer. So when driving parts that would not
appear on a sales order, i.e. module of a finished product it would not
get consumed.

MPS on the other hand works very much like forecasting but takes any
type of demand into consideration, rather than just sales orders.

If there is a forecast and MPS in the system for a part, the MPS takes
president.

The only down side of MPS is that you cannot make it customer specific
and it is does not store consumed values.

Thanks Gary, but I'm not sure I understand. If I drive demand with a
Master
Scheduler Order, then the Sales Order is entered, won't MRP plan for
both
(thus over-planning)? Would I need to reduce the MPS for each module as
the
Sales Orders are taken?

Use the MPS instead of the forecasting at the modular level.

We are on Epicor 9.04.504, but this issue may not have changed since
version
8.

We can build over 10,000,000 possibly product configurations with
several
hundred modules. Forecasting is done at the module level. The
configurator
"builds up" the selected modules into an end-item configuration for the
customer. The issue is: How can we consume the forecasts of the modules
that we entered? I am concerned that, without Forecast Consumption at
the
module level, MRP will plan for both our Forecast AND our open sales
orders.

How do other companies that are heavily dependent on the configurator do
this?

Has anyone been successful at automating the toggling of the PO Release Lock Date and Lock QTY by way of a BPM or BAM in 8.03.40X?

I've read that there has been some success in doing it through a customization, but I personally would prefer to avoid that in place of more update friendly BPMs/BAMs.

Has anyone had any luck accomplishing this?

Thanks!

We are auto locking the LockQty in 8.03.405a BPM, *but* you need 4GL developer license

Is the developer license for progress?

Yes, the Progress developer license.

Because the LockQty and LockDate flags are stored in the ComXRef table *and* the BPM actions that affect the fields in the tt data are so unreliable on those fields, I had to resort to actually creating the ComXRef record. The lib/UpdateTableBuffer.p would not work because the record did not exist to be updated....

It is a real shame that those fields aren't really stored in the PORel table - not even in 9.04.504.

I am afraid if they tried to move those flags, it would adversly affect MRP functioning.
