Forecast

I was thinking someone told me that users must maintain Forecasts. meaning that forecasts need to be removed from the system? Do you need to do that if Forecasts is consumed?

No, once a forecast is consumed by orders the system will no longer view it as open demand. We keep all our historical forecast data in so we can run reports on forecasting accuracy.

Should you remove them if they won’t get consumed?

We do not delete any of them. The only issue we have ran into a couple times is if there are overlapping forecast windows MRP may view both forecasts as demand driving more jobs. When these pop up (rarely) we have deleted them to avoid confusion.

When you mean overlapping do you mean you have a 2 Forecasts for same part and same date? I am fairly new to Forecasting.

Not the same date but close enough that they still fall within your forecast window that is configured at the company level (Company Config->Modules->Production->MRP). This tells it how far before and after the forecast date to look for orders to consume the forecast. We bulk load forecasts for most parts monthly and have the system include orders 15 days before and 30 days after the forecast date to consume the forecast. If an additional forecast is entered by sales manually for a date within that window and they do not delete or reduce the bulk loaded forecast the system will view both forecasts as demand.

If I have a Forecate that is OLD but was never consumed will that cause issues?

If it still falls within the forecast window then it will still be acted upon by the system. If it does not fall within that window then leaving it there should not cause any issues (it doesn’t for us at least).

If the forecast date is in the past, and outside the window, Time Phase does not display or act upon it.
