Before I reinvent the wheel has anyone done an integration into Epicor with FSC for tracking category on raw and finished parts? I have an idea of how I would go about it but trying to collect input. These are my ideas.
Finished parts just a simple FSC Category dropdown
Raw parts in our case are lot tracked to thinking about trying to extend PartLot to include FSC Category dropdown
Suppliers and Purchase points thinking about using the FSC API to pull certificate status and dates on a 30 day interval scheduled.
Trying to keep it pretty simple but make sure my bases are covered from the Epicor side.
With any of those flags in place I can do what I need to for reporting on paperwork. I just want to make sure I am not missing anything important, it feels straightforward to me but the document is like 600 pages with which 589 do no apply to IT.
I worked for a huge lumber company for 20 years back when FSC was first created.
You’ve got it covered. We really did the same - extended PartLot with some UD fields. In our case raw material (Logs) were tracked by harvest batch in a separate program designed for logging operations but had the same sort of thing - the batch had an FSC Boolean indicator. True if it was from our land, false if it was someone else’s.
Since the processing rules say you can’t mix/match, each Mill-run of logs was either FSC or not, and the control room set up the Epicor inventory interface on the PLC’s too indicate FSC True/False. It then created PartLot records as the lumber was packaged and set the FSC flag. this also caused different color tags to be printed for the FSC lumber Lots.
We didn’t really have categories since we were only making lumber to be used in subsequent processes (furniture, caskets, cabinetry, etc.) but the gist is the same.
